Default Does this sound like MG?

I am still seeking a diagnosis, but MG still seems to fit better than anything else I can find. I love to jog, and sometimes I can still go out and jog a nice slow 3 miles with little issue. This week I went out and didn't make it down the sidewalk before my legs just didn't feel right. Not numb or painful - it almost felt like I was running on someone else's legs. I had to walk most of it and when I was jogging, I just couldn't make them go any faster than they were - it was very weird. I also noticed that I couldn't push off the ball of my foot enough to make my calves contract - it was almost as if it was just my hips propelling my legs forward more than my legs doing the work. I walked home and was discouraged because I was just running 3 miles a few weeks ago with no problem. Then yesterday, I was dying to know if it would happen again so I went out and it went OK. I jogged a slow 3 miles without that strange feeling and I could speed up if I wanted to. Just a day later?!? This coming and going doesn't seem to fit many conditions at all and just has me baffled.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Strange for sure, but with my MG it's a fatigable where after much movement at all I have that feeling of not being able to control the muscles. It doesn't come and go really if I fatigue my muscle. Of course, you are used to running so maybe they take longer to fatigue, but I couldn't consider walking a quarter of a mile not to mention jogging 3. Since you had a day you could do that, it almost makes me think it would be something else, but it sounds like you should see a Neurologist.

The running on someone else's legs is exactly how I describe my feeling though... I walk on someone else's legs all the time. They just don't do what I want them to most of the time!

It might be LEMS. Did they do those tests?

If you do have MG, ditto on what Candi said. You should not be running until it's determined exactly what you have. If it is MG, you could literally go into a crisis while running. If you insist on running, at least carry a sheet of paper that relays this suspicion and says to dial 911, plus have a cell phone with you.

Have you had a brain MRI?

Glucose issues can make someone go "weak in the knees."

When I was younger, I could do more and there would be more times I could sustain an activity. Everyone with MG is different.

Do your legs feel like lead weights? That's classic MG.

Try leaning your arms on a counter for a couple of minutes. Do they start to give out?

Try the upward gaze with your eyes, looking upward without moving your head. Do your eyelids or eyebrows droop afterward? Does it hurt to do it?

If you have a stairway, or steps of any kind, try going up and down two steps repeatedly and see if you get the same funny feeling in your legs. And check your pulse before and after (after resting for a few minutes).

Just be careful, whatever you do.

Annie
