Nicky so sorry for the news you got, Don't worry about the scar or healing time, do what is best for getting everything out, & I mean all of it, it is so important, there are a lot of stories of them not getting it all & it grows back. They are so good at stitching now, after a few years, the scar blends in, very thin.

Hey Nicky. I understand your concerns. I just had a thymectomy, the transcervical where they go thru your neck right above the collar bone. From what I have read and been told the recovery time is much shorter. But it can also be harder for them to get all of the thymus. The only reason I decided to have this way was because he was 90% sure he could get it all w/o having to crack the sternum. So if this is at all an option for you I would look into it. I was told thru the breast area was not recommended. I guess its very hard to get it all that way. Anyway good luck with everything. Hope this helps.

Nicky,
Just want to reassure you that you shouldn't even have a thymus left after about age 30, so no trouble loosing the thing if it's causing problems! As Erin said, the good news is that once they get that bugger out you should be on your way to recovery and quite possibly remission, so try to look on the bright side. You can get through the surgery just fine - if you can do the less invasive go for it! We're all pulling for you! Best of luck for an easy operation and speedy recovery!
