Not sure if this is where to post this but will try
I have just had my second shoulder surgery in 8 months first ortho which didn't take and was only able to lift my arm about chest high and no more second was in Jan 2013 they cut open to re-attach and did a manipulation and had nerve block both times, and now there is no sensation or ability to lift the arm at all or flex my trap muscles can move the arm with pt help or my own and freely move elbow down but if arm is just at my side it is like the switch is turned off for the signal to lift it could this be from nerve block?? or other really worried at this point. Jay I am 52 but fit and trim and healthy and stay flexible |

Wow now I am worried, in the beginning they said it was massive rotator cuff damage and the Subscapularis Tendon was the one they had to go back in and re-attach which is around the Brachial plexus which in the first surgery he had said it was right at that point where he would have to cut in instead of ortho but I think the ortho was the easy way out and then he put the second surgery down as a re-tear, again thanks for the info I had already sent a note off to my neurologist to see what he thinks, but I am not sure why we had to wait 7 months to do a mri to see whats wrong, thats 7 months of being a 1 1/2 armed bandit (per say) the therapy only gets you as far as range of motion via you other arm helping or they are moving it and then left on your own.

Doesn't really burn but it's just and annoying slight sharp pain and discomfort, going to have the emg test and that will be at the 8 week point after surgery the surgeon said not to worry about no sensation to lift the arm that it will come with pt and this is normal after a surgery I just don't think it is and not going to wait 8 months again like after the first surgery this is my life's well being on the line and this time I want answers,,

Well had my six week follow up and the dr was a little upset that I wanted a nerve test which I already schedule on my own outside of him and he said go ahead and have it done that it won't show anything but to satisfy my curiosity and then went on with the exam lift my arm up and said hold it there but it went right down I ask if this is normal he said when you cut open for a operation it is trauma to the shoulder and the body shuts the nerve off !? huh!? I never heard of that?
