I was diagnosed with ms in 2001. Symptoms have been very mild. I am presently on low dose Rebif. I am presently having severe pain in left buttock and down the left leg. It is not bad when lying down, but becomes very painful when sitting, and when in the process of getting up or lying down. I am awaiting results from ct scan. At this time we don't know if this is related to the ms or not. There is also a family history on Neurofibromatosis, so there is a possibility of a spinal tumor. I am presently on 50 mg. Fentanyl patch, and200 mg Celebrex. I am becoming very impatient while waiting for ct results. It has been ten days since scan was taken. Anybody experience anything similar?

Siatica can cause pain from the butt down the back of the leg. However, I have had the same problem and mine has been due to the MS.

I used to have sciatica fairly frequently, and what you describe sounds like what I remember of sciatica: really intense, sharp pain in that area.

My neurologist said the sciatica was not related to any of the other nerve problems I had from low B12.

But after a significant amount of B12 replacement therapy I've never had sciatica again... so I distrust him on that.

In my experience doctors behave as if there is a huge peg board of diseases and each disease/condition has its own little hole for its round little peg to fit into.

I don't think that's a good way of approaching health...

I think that the nerves are responsible for a huge amount of things that go wrong with the body, and from my experience low B12 is a real culprit...

I sure wish my doctors had treated my "profound B12 deficiency" much sooner and much better.

It's nice to meet you, and welcome! I don't have any experience with MS, but I do suffer from pain in my left leg that expands and contracts. But mine affects the whole leg, so I don't know if it would be in the same category or not. It's so frustrating to figure out, because almost anything can cause pain! I am surprised it's taking so long to get the results from your CT scan. I've had a lot of those, and the technicians have told me that the results are available within a day almost every time to the requesting physician, but it's the docs who take their time accessing it.

Hi Lois. Welcome to NT. This is a wonderfully supportive place.

I have friends with MS, but that's the extent of my knowledge. I have pain where you describe but mine is from inflammation in my sacroiliac joints. I used to get epidurals because they thought the pain was from the problems with my discs in my lumbar region. As soon as they started the SI injections, I found much more relief.

Heh I was just reading your post. I have NF1 so do bothof my chidren. I am by no means a medical doctor but I am Massage thereapist. It sounds like you may be expeirencing siatica. I would get checked for the NF if that is a concern. My son is having some issues with the NF he is 6. Anyhow I would defanitly make an appointment and ask if it's siatica. Just a thought

I am sorry that you have nerve pain as well; one thing at a time is surely enough for most people to cope with.
