Default intro from a newbie

Hello, folks.

About me: I am 63, a certified personal trainer as well as a nationally certified, licensed massage therapist. I am a Liberal but won't be starting any political threads. I am married and a grandfather. Today I still remotely resemble the successful competitive bodybuilder I was 25 years ago. But, heck, who knows what's going on on the inside.

If it's permitted on this forum, where appropriate, I may offer input on health issues from time to time. Note, please that I am not an MD, and will not offer a diagnosis on any health issue. However, I know a thing or two about proper exercise form. I'll help anyone who asks.

Hi Gary. My name is Melody and I'm also 63 years old. Used to be morbidly obese and lost the weight. I have diabetes but I control this with a good diet. I grow my own food right in my kitchen. I am a sprouter.

Look up benefits of sprouting and you'll see why I do it and what I sprout.

I sprout broccoli, radish, fenugreek and all the brassica sprouts.

Best thing I have done for myself.

does a body good.

So welcome to Neurotalks.

Mel

Thank you, Melody. The wife and I are both diabetic. So far my only symptom from it is restless leg syndrome (I toss and turn in sleep). Controlling it with metformin and diet (less so these days). But I exercise as often as I can get to the gym, usually 3-4 half-hour workouts with the weights per week. The wife just this week is refusing to go with me, and she needs it more than I. I am an LMT, so I give her a good massage every week, but can't reach my own back and legs!

I try to eat healthy, but the only sprouts I get are occasionally on a buffet somewhere.

Cool Hey there, Gary! Welcome.

Glad you stopped by here . Wander around the forums, kick off your shoes (as one of our members says ) & stay a while! Ask questions, share tips, go talk politics ("there's a forum for that!"), pretty much something for everyone here.
Whatever you can contribute from your personal treasure trove, mucho mercy!
Did I mention ask questions? My personal favorite.

Gary:

Never eat any sprouts from a buffet. You don't know where they came from, and you don't know what is in them. I use organic seeds, I'm the only one who handles them and I've been doing this for 3 years. I would NEVER eat any sprouts from any buffet. Look it up. Lots of e-coli going on there. They have had to recall alfalfa sprouts because of this.

I give my husband a massage all the time because of his neuropathy. I go up and down his back and it seems to bring the blood into his feet. He's not diabetic but he's had neuropathy for over 20 years.

Horrible disease.

Melody

Nope, I wish. Dog is Trigger, horse is Buddy. Not what one might guess, huh? Would like to know the story behind that, but the photo came from the icanhascheeseburger.com site. All my 65 yrs folks have been telling me to just hold my horses, so this tickled my funny bone.

Gary, I just re-read my post to you and realized I came off like a know-it-all. Believe me, that's not me at all. I am so sorry.

You eat what you want. But be careful at any buffets.

lol

Blank A good call, though...

Your warning of buffet sprouts is spot-on, Melody. A friend of mine in Germany is still iffy from fenugreek sprouts at a very posh wedding buffet several weeks back. The bride's grandparents nearly died.
