Default Welcome! Have you been examined by a doctor/emergency medical staff post concussion?

Here's Mayo Clinic's list of what to expect following concussion from their website:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/concussion/DS00320

Signs and symptoms of a concussion may include:

Headache or a feeling of pressure in the head
Temporary loss of consciousness
Confusion or feeling as if in a fog
Amnesia surrounding the traumatic event
Dizziness or "seeing stars"
Ringing in the ears
Nausea or vomiting
Slurred speech/Fatigue

Some symptoms of concussions may be immediate or delayed in onset by hours or days after injury:

Concentration and memory complaints
Irritability and other personality changes
Sensitivity to light and noise
Sleep disturbances
Psychological adjustment problems and depression
Disorders of taste and smell

+ + + + (end of article)

I added the red emphasis.

If you don't mind me saying so, please see a doctor/medical emergency staff if you haven't already. Then check the great forum Rae's linked you to & settle in wherever you're comfy.

Sure glad you're here! I look forward to getting to know you when you're feeling better. Keep asking questions!!

Default My husband suffers from post concussion syndrome

Hi,

My husband was in a car crash (his car was rear ended and pushed off the road & fell on it's side) 2 years ago and he still suffers from the pcs symptoms.

Especially the ringing in the ears (tinnitis)sensitivity to noise, dizziness and he can be grumpy too.

I have found Neurotalk quite helpful in trying to cope with it because it can be quite difficult. You see, he looks fine and he goes through spells of months and weeks where he doesn't experience any symptoms of the pcs, but then it all of a sudden creeps up on you and the next thing you know I'm wondering why he's being so cranky and difficult to live with.

We now have a password/phrase that he uses then I know that he's feeling the symptoms, so it makes it a little easier to deal with, but it still saddens me that after all this time he still has the symptoms to deal with and I think it'll be around for a long time, if this is anything to go by.

Rest and drinking plenty of water helps him, I think.

Cool Welcome, I'm glad you stopped by.

Your idea of a password is so great! It sounds to me as if you & your husband are still working as life partners after suffering a really traumatic event that would destroy many marriages. That is amazing & maybe even a little miracle. You have much to build on. This is a great place to come both for information & for virtual hugs--you'll meet people who've been somewhere around where you are now & gotten beyond it. & if you just need towe'll listen. Probably won't even tell you that you shouldn't feel like that.

Here's some links to forums I think will be of interest:

Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Concussion Syndrome: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum92.html

Caregiver Support: *http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum56.html

And here's the depression link, too. Maybe you don't need it, but considering what you're going through you might: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum37.html

You can start a thread on either or both places or just copy your intro from here & use it to start a thread. That's where you'll get more action. The Caregiver's support forum isn't very active at times, but I'm hoping it will pick up. I cared for my dad--I needed this place then.

If there's something you need & can't find, ask. Ask questions, then ask more. Keep coming back. Get your husband on the forum, if that's the sort of thing he does (or is he the typical male patient?).

Take care of you. Your job starts there. Then you help him.
