Default RHS pain - Eye, Face, Neck.

Hello everyone,

My name is Andy and I am 23 years of age. Sorry in advance for the long post

It upsets me that no one has been able to help me with my health problems, which I have been experiencing for 5/6 years now. Hopefully, you can help

I wake up with a dull headache every morning accompanied with pain behind my right eye and a slight drooping of the eyelid. If I relax my face, I can barely see out of my right eye.... My eyes can be very sensitive to light and my ears to noise. This has consistent since the beginning. I also have a nasal drip and facial pain behind the cheeks.

I've seen an ENT who diagnosed minor rhinitis, prescribed me some nasal spray but nothing happened. I've had an allergy test, which came back negative. I've also changed my diet.

I eat healthily - lots of water, fruit and lots of vegetables a day - and I am really active. I cycle at least 100 miles a week and climb at least twice a week. Strangely, I still have trouble breathing whilst cycling, albeit I should be able to cope due to the amount I ride?

Now, this is where it gets interesting. I've been seeing a chiropractor for 2 months now. They have suggested that I am out of alignment, especially in C1/C2 area. Also, my right shoulder is lower than my left shoulder, which seems to pull on the right side of my neck? Unfortunately, although it all makes sense, I am yet to feel the benefits.

My job requires me to sit on a computer for 8 hours a day. I also spend an additional two hours or so in the evening. Could this be the problem? I am right handed - Overuse of the right side of my body? Computer use has been consistent for 5/6 years due to university and this job.

Thanks for listening and I hope you are in good health

Andy.

Hello,
You don't mention any hand, arm or neck pain or tightness...
so I don't think it could be thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS).
But it could be due to trigger points, they often do some nasty stuff to us.

We have trigger point info on our TOS forum, here's a sticky thread link about it.
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread125577.html

more info here too-also TOS info

Smile Hello Andy!

Welcome to NT!
I sure understand how frustrating it is not getting answers from the healthcare. I hope you can start getting answers soon. Meanwhile, there's so much available here in the way of information and fellow support.
There are others here who are very active like yourself and you should get some good feedback soon.

It's great to have you!

Rae

Thanks for reading my post and being so kind to reply.

It's funny that you should mention trigger points... I am currently reading The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Clair Davies. It's interesting and intend to make use of the information and massages in there. I'll take a look at those links when I get back from work today.

Can these things be posture related? I've noticed recently that my head tends to hang forward and that my back is ridiculous curved? Could this be scoliosis?

I just want to get rid of the terrible eye pain. The trigger point book suggests that this is due to the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

Thanks again, Andy.

hi,

oh, yeah. bad posture is a negative!!!

Been working on my bad posture for a couple of years now.

I put a long dressing mirror at the side of my workstation. I cannot believe some of the postures I put myself in to look at a monitor.

I must strengthen my core so my back/spine can support my body. So my own muscles can hold/stabilize my bulges and herniations.

Yoga, controlled, deep-belly breathing and just simply doing some thoughtout stomach/naval to spine exercises I can do while I'm sitting in my comfortable chair at my computer. Butt squeezes too. oh, yeah.

alternate sitting/standing throughout the day.

I also have a twist board I use while at my workstation.

You are young. So youth can make healing quicker.

Trigger points in the sternocleidomastoids can cause you problems. My therapist and I worked hard on those.

I also have a TheraCane that helps with trigger points. https://www.google.com/search?source...&=&q=TheraCane

It also sounds like good old migrianes, being light and sound sensitive. I'm also familiar with the pressure behind one eye... and sinus issues.

You're a well-trained athlete, sounds like. That's great.

All those good habits will serve you well. Keep up the good things you're doing.

Hope you find answers that work for you so you can be your best.

Hi Darlene and Broken Wings. Thanks for your welcomes and replies.

Firstly, is it normal to continue this kind of thread within the new members area or should it be relocated to a more specific area?

Regardless, thanks for your support.

I think posture has a huge part of to play with my problems. I have started going to a yoga class twice a week, which I hope will help me a lot!

The only thing that has ever mystified me is the sudden pain in the morning, straight from wakening. It's a tension like headache accompanied by the dull pain behind the right eye and huge grey circles under both. Surely, rest/sleep makes everything 'right' no? I've tried to think logically about this but the only thing that I can think of is this;

Due to whatever reason (there are a few, including an accident when I was 4), my right shoulder drops lower than my right. It is clear that the neck muscles on the right of my body are very tense. This would make sense as the neck muscles attach from the shoulder. It would also explain why my chiropractor thinks my head is being pulled to the right slightly. When sleeping, the shoulder positions will remain the same, thus, not repairing.

Is that a ridiculous idea or does logic really mean something with these problems?

Anyway, I'm considering quitting my job and going travelling for six months. Although I'd love to see the world, part of me wants to go to rid of the computer-related job and see if my symptoms subside!

As for now, I'm supposed to be going on a stag-doo but I feel terrible and as we all know, alcohol does far to help the problems

Have a lovely weekend,

Andy.

Hello Andy, although there is nothing stopping you continuing to post here in the New Members Forum, we do suggest that people post under the forum most related to their symptoms, and we do that for several reasons.

First, if you visit the forum most relevant to your symptoms (the TOS Forum for you at this stage) your posts, questions and problems will be viewed by other members with similar symptoms and experiences and therefore more people would be likely to have the knowledge to help you than (say) this forum, where members with all sorts of different diagnoses visit, and not necessarily any who can help with your concerns.

Secondly, many of our specialty forums (and the TOS forum is one of them) have a great deal of wonderful information already posted for anyone to read.

If you look towards the top of the threads once you get to the forum of your choice, you will see what we call "stickies". They're easily identifiable by the green arrow to the left of the thread title. There you will find some very valuable information, and in the TOS Forum we have the following:

* Useful Links - Websites, Articles & Polls
* Lists of doctors and physios
* Trigger point information (TrPs) for short

I'll post the link for the TOS forum Andy. Do call by and let the others know that you've joined and what problems you're having. If you find that forum is not the one for you, I'm sure our members there will put you on the right track.

Here's that link: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum24.html

Once you've done that, do have a look around the site. We have many other forums that might interest you. There's a news forum, one where people show us their artistic ability, one to post a recipe, discuss your garden or read about a movie that some-one has just seen, plus many more.

Welcome to NeuroTalk Andy. I do hope you're going to enjoy your stay with us.
