Default New Comer

Hi all. I was diagnosed with adult onset Leukodystrophy in September and have been looking for a place where I can chat with others, gain information and possibly help encourage others or family members like my dear wife who has to learn to live with my condition.

Default Liberation

So far, while dealing with the physical challenges, I have had a great sense of liberation. I do not have to apologize for what I cannot control.

Default Living as we should

We always talk about living like it is your last day, but I have learned that until you face that as a real option you really don't know what it can mean. When I was younger I would have said, "Yeah, I'll go nuts with fun and a carefree attitide." Interesting, when doctors told my wife and me that I am in God's hands and all they can do is try to help me be as comfortable as possible and function as long as I can, it made me appreciate more what I have going for me. I, like you, am facing the eventual final day. For me it has made me want to do more for others and leave a positive memory.

Default Thankfulness

Today is Thanksgiving. I never thought of it before but there is a differnce between being happy and being thankful. Happiness is passive, something happens to bring pleasure. Thankfulness requires personal investment and is active in nature. Thankful comes as the result of action. I am thankful.

Default Good boss

I was really surprised and thankful for something my employer did the other day. He insisted he buy me a larger computer monitor and adjust lighting to make it more comfortable for me. I realize that employers have to make requested accomodations, but I would not have asked on my own. It is a great motivator.

I can see that I will be learning from you LaMike. Not for the condition that you have, but rather your wisdom.

I am new, and I can see connections are inevitable. Take care. I will be re-visiting this thread.
