Default Just Joined waiting to find out what's wrong with me

Hi

Well it all started with some problems which kept occurring on and off problems with my eyes, difficulty swallowing, joint pain, ,migraine, tiredness and then when I started having problems with my memory, finding it hard to focus on conversation, zoning out I went to see my GP was referred to a Neurologist which brings me to now I had a brain MRI just got results back says I have some abnormal white matter which looks ischemic then goes on to say its unusual at my age and he will be consulting with a Neuroradiologist at another hospital. In the meantime I have an EEG next week I'm so worried as nothing has been explained to me, my next appointment with the Neurologist is Jan next year. Has anyone had similar findings on their MRI? when I google online its quiet worrying what comes up.

Hello Claudia,

Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

I'm sorry you have to wait so long to see your Neurologist. Perhaps you could go back to see your GP in the meantime to ask specific questions you may have. Otherwise you're going to worry so much and that is understandable.

I pulled up an article regarding incidental ischaemic changes on MRI and was surprised that it seems to be quite a common finding. There is also a graph showing age related incidental findings.

http://www.gponline.com/incidental-i...rticle/1174234

You could try a forum search for keywords. I used term - ischaemic - but there seem to be more posts using the other spelling of ischemia without the a.
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/search.php

It seems way too long for you to not have a doctor explain the findings to you. If I was in your situation, I would ask my GP. Waiting until January would be very difficult.

take care there.

Hi Claudia,

At my last Brain MRI in 2013 my Consultant pointed out a pattern of White Matter Lesions almost as an aside to the main issue I was presenting with, a large Lesion through the middle of the Pons which causes my double vision. As my Diabetes was in control, I had given up smoking, my blood pressure was low due to my Heart Meds and I was not carrying too much extra weight (Mirtazapine hadn't wreaked havoc yet), the Consultant basically disregarded the findings as incidental.

After reading your Post, I had a little look around and found this more calmly written, soothing Blog from an MD:

https://braindiseases.wordpress.com/...hould-i-worry/

Having something wrong with the brain is scary, it allows us to function as Ourself, and damage of any kind can seem to rob us of a part of 'Me'. However, it can also be adaptable and resilient and age is an important factor in this regard.

So, I realise January is a while away, but the best place for answers will be your own Neuro reading the MRI Images, not the Report. Be patient, enjoy the Holiday Season as stress-free as you can, look after yourself physically, try to remain calm.

Dave.

Hi Lara

Thanks for your reply and the link for the article, I've been in contact with my GP but he say's I need to wait till my next appointment with the Neurologist when he can then explain it more. Doesn't really help in the meantime so I'm kind of in limbo at the moment

Hi Dave

Thanks for your reply I can understand what you're saying, I somehow feel different as though I'm not me anymore which is really strange, although I'm trying not to focus on it the last few nights I've struggled to sleep which in turn makes me feel worse. Thanks for the link another good article.

Claudia,

Sounds like - naturally - you are having a few Anxiety issues over these Results. This is not deliberate, your subconcious mind plays terrible tricks on us at times of stress. I would suggest Relaxation Programmes or a simple Breathing Meditation to learn to control this while you are under pressure. Of course, if this gets worse it is something your GP can help you with.

Dave.

Kind of creeps up on you I think Dave and flares up my other health problems which then becomes a vicious cycle, hopefully I will sleep better tonight as I do feel so tired, guess I'm now thinking of the upcoming EEG on Tuesday and whether it will show anything or indeed what it actually could show. Its annoying because I have to go to a different hospital for it and I'm not a fan of travelling.

Good luck for Tuesday! I have problems travelling, especially now I have to be ferried everywhere.

Do keep us informed on how it goes, or Post in the interim for any reason - even just to vent - we are a Community of caring listeners.
