Default Hi

I am so happy to have finally found a place to be able to discuss neuro issues.

I was diagnosed with essential tremor 20 some years ago. My tremor affects my head and right arm, hand. I've received treatment at NIH, and nothing there worked. One of the nurses there finally suggested a "surgical intervention". So in 2002 I had a deep brain stimulator implanted on one side of my brain. I was told that it wouldn't affect the tremor in my head, but the right arm/hand would decrease. After about a year a neurologist did numerous tests, over the course of another year, and came to the conclusion that the stimulator didn't do anything AT ALL. So I've had the dbs removed.

I've tried every medication used to treat essential tremor and nothing has worked.

I am close to giving up on anything ever helping...

Hi, Germaine! Welcome to NeuroTalk!

I can't imagine what all of that has been like for you! I think I'd be a little mad and a lot frustrated.

At any rate, I'm glad you've found us and hopefully, someone who knows more than I will be along to help guide you. Meantime, there is a search tool in the blue toolbar above that may help you find some topics of interest.

Feel free to jump in anywhere, the water's warm at NT!

Hi ((Germaine)) and welcome to NeuroTalk. This is a very caring and supportive community.

I'm not sure where to direct you. I did a search on essential tremor and came up with posts in several different forums.

One is the Movement Disorders forum at http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=65

Parkinsons at http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=34

Reflex Sympathy Dystrophy at http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21

I hope you find what you are looking for.
