Exclamation I wait in terror for the next attack

I suffer from trigeminal neuralgia (TN). I've had it for at least four years but it was only diagnosed correctly just over a year ago. Until then I had teeth pulled out, root canal fillings, antibiotics for sinus problems and a whole host of other similar "cures". Once diagnosed I found tegretol to be reasonably effective to start with. But it seems to be losing its effectiveness now and the attacks are coming with greater ferocity and instead of single spasms, I get rapidly repeating ones. When I am not having the attacks, I live in fear waiting for the next one. Now the slightest twinge creates a feeling of terror.

peace to you all

Default Hi, Stewart...

It's good to meet you. I'm sorry you are having so much trouble with your TN, and especially the terror of waiting for the next attack. That is something I'm familiar with, and unlike the attacks themselves, the terror never goes away. I'm really glad to see that you've found us here, though. There are lots of nice folks here, and maybe they can help you keep your thoughts on something else. Good luck and best wishes to you, Stewart.

Hi Stewart and Welcome to NeuroTalk. I don't know much about TN, but I know someone who also suffers from it and she also has stated that she prays she never has another attack. She carries med in a little necklace around her neck in case an attack comes on.

I hope you can find some info and comfort here. This is a great place and everyone here is so kind and helpful. Let us know if we can help in any way.

Hi Stewart,

Welcome to NT. Fear and pain are both terrible to endure. And I know its not easy to let go of the fear and the fear probably even exaccerbates those angry nerves.

I once worked with a hypnotherapist to help me conquer some of my fear. Now when I feel my self holding and tensing I talk myself through it before it gets bad. Not a cure but it helps.

Please let us know if you need anything at all.
