Hi,
I am posting for the first time and would like to know if anyone has nerve damage to their throat. I have severe nerve damage to the throat due to a surgery for my jaw. I don't know how it happened because no one has told me. But I can't feel the back of my throat, my uvula and I have no gag reflex. I am worried that it is the vegus nerve and from anesthesia ie intubation injury. Does anyone know if there is any possibility of repairing these nerves and restoring some nerves in the throat. I am only forty seven and I'm already asperating on a regular basis, both at night and during the day. I have my first chest/lung infection/cough from an asperation episode and I amd very discouraged about this condition and very worried about my life. ![]() |

My heart goes out to you. You should demand an investigation and those involved should be answering these questions for you - or go to a specialist 2nd opinion - maybe there is some doc out there that can help. I can feel your fear and understand it. Best to you, Paininhead |

Hi, I certainly understand where u r coming from. For the past 6 months I have been overlooked by dr's that have told me I had an allergic reaction to something. On thursday my gag reflex was gone. I went to ENT who confirmed the loss of the gag reflex but wasn't sure why or how it happened. I am worried because I also have terrible bone popping whenever I move. I don't know if this is because of the nerve damage or if it's an additional issue. I am only 25 years old and it is rather depressing to have to go through this. On top of that I quit my job because of the stress and now my insurance will soon run out.

I would camp out at your surgeons office until he resolved this,,,alot of dr;s try to blame on something else to get out of a mishap,,he should already be ordering tests and referals to a good nose ear and throat dr, on his dime,,,And most of all,,pray to the Lord,,he will rresolve this matter,,,he cares and he loves you,,im so sorry to hear,,your in my prayers,,,,,,bobber,,,,,ps,,,how long has it been since your jaw surgery? has it been time enough for it to heal,,or is this permanate |
