Default More anxiety info

Of course, this little anxiety quiz in the PsychCentral Newsletter wasn't intended to take into account details such as whether or not you have PD, bipolar disease, etc. but is there to direct those with high scores to seek medical attention.

And I'm sure they did this quiz to motivate me to dig more into this condition that closely relates to PD motor symptoms. No, I didn't make a mistake - I said "motor" symptoms, not non-motor. I have always noted and contended that mood and motor skills go hand-in-hand, and it appears that science is agreeing. I've been trying to figure out how to focus more attention on the behavioral aspect of Parkinson's, because of the sheer numbers of people suffering from anxiety disorders.

However, I want to keep this thread "Non-scientific" so that others won''t be reluctant in posting (i.e. taking the quiz).

Are you reading between the lines? Yep, maybe we can possibly get some more attention iin Parkinson's disease research when the marketiing folks (such as pharmaceutical companies) see the sheer numbers of PWP who also have an anxiety disorder.

So watch for another thread after we get a few more quiz takers.

The New York Times Magazine cover story for September, 2009 is "Anxiety."

Default posted in October

hey Peg -

Rick posted a thread to the main article in that magazine back in October:

"Understanding the Anxious Mind": http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...t=anxious+mind

It's a great article and really helped me understand my lifelong (and somewhat unconscious) need to construct mechanisms to cope with anxiety. When PD hit, it destroyed my coping mechanisms (job, family, health) that kept me anxiety free. My job now is to tame the beast again by rebuilding a healthy lifestyle!

Thanks for a post to the entire magazine - more food for thought!

45 - "Based upon your responses to this screening measure, you are most likely suffering from an anxiety disorder."

Not surprising to me!

38 & up is rated as "Severe anxiety"

Aunt Bean scored a 5, mostly because of the one question trouble sleeping ...though that is better since I added 5 HTP before bed...not anxious.

I had a 13 Mild to little anxiety. Like everyone else, take away the questions that are common PD symptoms and i would have scored even lower.

Default Thank you!

I hope we get a few more test takers. I am chomping at the bit to analyze this anxiety thing, and may go ahead and post what I've found.

GregD - that's the first time I had read your little quote in your sign-off. I'm still chuckling (and thinking that's not a bad strategy!) lol

No, paula, you don't shake - you are like me. You and I "flail."

I scored a 2. Couldn't believe it but an underlying goal in my whole life has been to stay calm. Of course, they made low scores sound like you might also need treatment for too little anxiety !!! lol They think I might be detached from myself -- not too likely.

I scored a 35 and as Paula says it feels a lot worse. Anxiety has always been an issue for me and is getting worse as time goes by. Anxiety is right up there with dystonia which is my worst symptom.
