Just got back fromIndiana and my grandbaby (undergoing treatments for leukemia) was doing better..was able to play with him this time..still not eating well, but nursing good at least. Praise God. Thanks for your prayers. Lots of work to do here ..anyone want to come help??? Need to pick limas, can kushaw pumpkins, dry tomatoes, clear used up garden spots, weed, start working on the rest of the greenhouse so it's ready to plant. shell out dried beans, haul a few loads of compost in.... better get started on my day...the sun is up! Didn't sleep last night much and running on low battery today.
Have a great day....oh , don't skimp on the 1 Cup of ground pumpkin seeds for the fava sprout balls...my friend said they didn't control her tremor as well this time (I had to use more oatmeal in them..ran out of ground pumpkin seeds!) Have a blessed day

Alot happenning at Bean Acres yesterday...a neighbor is out of work right now and came over with a Kabota....an amazing machine with lots of attachments. He cleared the ground above the greenhouse and also the barn) and today is going to try to get a trench dug to bury the plastic on that side of the greenhouse, which was never done. I managed to get one side done and then so many other things were first priority (Planting
and harvesting, etc) The Natural Therapy events took alot of preparation time too!
I am so excited about getting things prepared for winter...especially inside the greenhouse. I have planted beets, a few favas, an avacodo that sprouted and a yellow summer squash plant so far. There is a bed of sweet potatoes too . Alot of area needs to be cleaned out, beds made and loads of compost hauled in and wheelbarrowed in to the greenhouse before anything else can be planted. Have been enjoying watermellons...feel good and worked almost all day yesterday (all but 1 1/2 hr in afternoon after getting too hot...stayed in a while drank and ate and did a load of clothes) The last of the first years "stick fence " fell down in a storm Saturday..the end of the first years garden memories. I will have to save money and do treated lumber for any future projects.
Have a great day..........Aunt Bean

Interesting discovery last week ...came across a site that was just what I was looking for about seratonin. Seratonin is depleted by adding l-dopa was on the Mucuna Post. And it is something I have felt was probably true for a long time since most of us have so much trouble sleeping. Here is what I came across:
Seratonin levels are BOOSTED BY:
whole grains, rice, corn, millet, buckwheat, root crops, squash, fresh fruits, apples,
rose hips, and chocolate
Things which CONTAIN SERATONIN:
Oatstraw, (loaded with vit B's) , Roots of Angelica , Burdock, Dandelion, Ginseng, Wild Yam, Black Cohosh, Cannabis
In my daily diet is definitely whole grains (I grind my own and make bread so vits are fresh and will be metabolized) Corn..grew our own and eat at least once a week)
millet..use in baking..grind myself. Buckwheat pancakes at least once a week,
Sweet potatoes are my absolute mainstay..I crave them, Fruits..yes
chocolate occasionaly alittle. *Rose HIPS..yes adding them to Essiac TEA for that 12 hr process..finally have 2 rosa rugosa plants growing and have my first 2 flowers!! This will provide much needed supply of hips that I have had to purchase for years*will be propigating alot more bushes of them!! *We will grow a patch of oats this year/
, been tryiing to get Angelica sees to grow, nope..need to purchase a plant perhaps
Burdock is one of the ingredients in Essiac Tea. Dandelion is free in the yard, but have to admit..it ihas not been in my diet very often..though the edible flowers are really yummy cooked with onions and garlic and srambled eggs. Will have to do that more often and perhaps dried root for tea.
Still testing my last experiment that I promised to report on. May not be what we need...spent the day too sleepy...though have lost alot of sleep the last couple of weeks, ...have overexurted myself a bit though...there is so much heavy outdoor garden and greeenhouse work to be done
..so CHEW on these seratonin findings for now and I will keep testing my experiment for a few more days before reporting if it is a failure or not. Blessings, Aunt Bean

Exciting day yesterday on the farm. Went to a seminar on fruit production at a nursery. Found an Angelica plant there , also splurged and got a jasmine vine and put both in the greenhouse, both were on sale. I also found that my globe artichokes (that I had left to go to flower and seed have finally made seeds. They got a beautiful blue flower (that looked like it should be in the ocean with clown fish swimming around it) now it has gone to all fuzzy on top and upon examination...it is like unto a dandelion ...that we as kids liked to pick up and blow and scatter the seeds up iinto the air and watch them float.
So now I have free seeds to start a large patch. They take up alot of space, but I guess a little less hayfield and more vegies is ok. For those of you that have been here..we just clear the area behind the barn so that may be their spot so they can have shade in the heat of the afternoon. My new tincture seems to work ok, tastes alot different and I still haven't made up my mind on it yet...so no experiment report yet (pray for my brother..just went on hospice..only 1/4th of heart working now, has 2 broken ribs and going downhill...he has falllen so much that he probably tore up the surgery on his heart.
He is 5 years older than me and started symptoms in 2003, I think.)

Aunt Bean, so sorry to hear your brother is suffering. I wish him the best, as well as your family. Remain strong.

So far the fava beans growing in the greenhouse are surviving the intense heat of the day (not even running a fan unless I'm working in there.) Got another raised bed made yesterday...it is beginning to look "lived in " now, instead of abandoned. It's about 80 feet long..still have half of it to go (chopping out weeds (for the 3rd or 4th time since April) and making more beds. Yesterday planted papaya seeds. I am doing a short presentation of my natural therapies research on Saturday Oct 20th at 11:00 for our support group here in East TN...interested in coming? Send a private message and let me know. Will give special tour of Bean Acres that day after the meeting.

Picked the first mucuna beans of the year this morning...sure are pretty, but they are "buggers" to shell out (found out last year though that if you let them sit a day or so it was easier than straight from the vines). Going to try mucuna balls this year from steamed fresh mucunas...so far we have only used bulk powder for these.
