Default Hi Ron

When diagnosed I weighed 125 lbs. I had consistant weight until 50. Between 45 and 50 I suffered severe dyskenesia, bad enough to be placed in the hospital, put into a coma, and placed on a drug holiday. Twice. 52 years placed on Mirapex and weight climbed to 175. DBS at 51, gained 50 more pounds lbs. No dyskenesia, however severe rigidity and numbness in lower portion of body. Only 74% oxygen levels while sleeping. Have started working out in a gym to turn excess weight into muscle and speed up metabolism. Particularly in trunk and core muscle groups. Weight is slowly going down (very slowly.) Has only been 2 months, but am still working at it.

There is a clear pattern emerging, slim folk have a high l-dopa sensitivity, and suffer sweating and dyskinesia.
Heavier folk need more sinemet, and don't have heavy dyskinesia or sweating.

Laura, Interesting idea to include how long a dose lasts,
I get about 3 hours from 50mg L-Dopa, and 2 hours from 25mg.
I dare not take 100mg, I would be through the roof with dyskinesia and sweating. (Funny, sweating is hardly ever discussed in medical papers, yet it clearly is a problem.)

If we could fill in the missing data it would add to the statistics.
Please let me know if I have got any data wrong.
I will be away all next week on holiday, so maybe somreone else could take over filling in the gaps

Ron is on vacation but please keep sharing your info; maybe at this point it is better to go with PM (private message). You can send to me and I will keep the table going.

Unfortunately, there is no way that I know of to get the table to post in a Bulletin Board readable format. We may end up saving it as an image and uploading that way.

Ron and Laura,
Something you might also consider asking is whether people have dry or oily skin, which I think also goes with these things. I have very dry skin rarely sweat in the normal run of things, goes with the other stuff, these opposites are both described as symptoms of PD...... or are they signs of l-dopa, or both.... the only time that I perspire profusely is when I go badly off........ all metabolic imbalance stuff.....

But the medication leaflets will probably shed light on some of this...

Back again, but we need a more computer literate person than me to organise the table. I spent hours putting in all the full stops to try and stop the table closing up. It would become clearer if we could separate the lighter group from the heavier group, and maybe add a 3rd group of "average" weight?
Laura, could you take this one over?

Ron

You might want to include a "constipation index" of some sort as an indicator of thyroid function. Hyperthyroid increases GI motility and hypothyroid lowers it. Seems that hyper- also goes along with thin, "eat crisps everyday and don't gain a pound" types and hypo- the reverse. In the middle is a group that is in a sort of transitory state moving back and forth between the two in a sub-clinical limbo.

Currently (2011) taking 200/50 Sinemet CR 8 times a day + 10/100 Sinemet 3 times a day. Functional 90% of waking day but fragile. Failure at exercise but still trying. Constantly experimenting. Beta blocker and ACE inhibitor at present. Currently (01/2013) taking ldopa/carbadopa 200/50 CR six times a day + 10/100 form 3 times daily. Functional 90% of day. Update 04/2013: L/C 200/50 8x; Beta Blocker; ACE Inhib; Ginger; Turmeric; Creatine; Magnesium; Potassium. Doing well.

Ron,

I don't mind at all but not sure I know how. While you were away, I tried adding a table according to Bulletin Board tags but it did not work at all. Were you trying to create the table within Neuro Talk's parameters? I first made one in a document and tried pasting here, but no go. If I can save it as a graphic file, it may work.

Any other tech savvy folks know the secret?

Laura,
I don't mind which format we use, I was just trying to get the table in a clear understandable form. If you would like to take over the maintainance, please feel free. To make it easier to form conclusions, I think we need to get it into 3 sections, lightweight, average and Heavy. I hope people are not shy to join the "heavies"!!!

NAME ……..…WEIGHT…...L-DOPA-... ….SWEATING……………..DYSKINESIA
Blue Dahlia. !...115……..… ...yes............... Yes……………........... Yes
Ron ………….......125………......yes…………...... Yes ……................. Yes
Soozie............Low BMI.......yes................yes.................. .....yes...........

Lindy……….... High BMI……....No…………..........?........................ ..?............…
Laura……...... ..160….......... No...................No.............. ........No..........
Patrick............260.............Yes............ .....Yes.......................No.............

Rick, I don't think we can add any more variables like constipation. Asking for a lot of data stops people contributing, and I can't get it all in the table. Same with "Oily skin" etc.
Provided I have got the figures right, the heavy table results are a bit more mixed. Difficult though. Laura has "mild dyskinesia", which I put in as "No".
