Thanks soccertese and others for your great personal experimentation and information about vitamin D. The following from the above referenced article was eye-opening to me,
"Reported biological effects in the nervous system include the biosynthesis of neurotrophic factors and at least one enzyme involved in neurotransmitter synthesis[72]. Vit-D3 metabolites can also inhibit the synthesis of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and increase glutathione levels, suggesting a role for the hormone in brain detoxification pathways. Vit-D is involved in the glutathione cycle and in cysteine transport. Brain gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (gamma-GT) is increased after vit-D administration and this positive effect was noted in pericytes and parenchymal astrocytes. Gamma-GT is thought to participate in the scavenging of reactive oxygen species and it was hypothesized that vit-D could be an effector controlling detoxification processes in the brain[73]." Besides the detoxification- also affecting the glutathione cycle and the synthesis of neurotropic factors! Sounds promising to me. Thanks, I'm going to make a point of more sun exposure. Quote:

Look what appeared today!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101130/...beat_vitamin_d One could say poor methodology... Big Pharma lobbyists, or whatever. There are just so many papers saying the reverse! But you KNOW this one will get TV coverage and be everywhere. I am going to continue with my 5,000 IU daily.

It is odd that no mention is made of the positive studies. And one would think that people all over America were wolfing down Vit D when it just isn't so. A mention of the value of monitoring serum levels instead of oral intake would have been a nice touch, too. Heck, maybe the stuff is good enough that someone sees a need to act proactively.

"I can't begin to tell you how many kids have off the chart allergies! All I know is a 4 inch binder is not big enough to hold all the allergen profiles I get for the kids we teach. The ironic thing is that these children are not born with so many allergies, rather their hyper vigilant, over protective parents induce them. The kids have no pets, no carpet fibers to contend with, no dirt under their nails, no skinned knees to band aid, and they don't spend any time out doors, so you can imagine the list of allergens stemming from this. They of course, all have nut allergies, but it extends now to include a vast array of tree nuts. Those with more severe allergies are required to don a fanny pack holding an epi pen the entire school day. I swear I wonder how they actually can manage to breathe when outdoors lest it bring on allergy attack. I shudder to think of the health problems they will face as adults and am almost certain there will be a fallout of major proportions from this insane lifestyle and parenting approach. Ironically, in their zeal to protect, they are instead laying the ground work for future auto-immune related health issues..."
-Laura[/QUOTE] I personally believe we are and have been mucking up our immune systems bigtime with the increasing vaccine program. I got a few shots when young, today our kids are expected to get over 36 shots with 150 more "candidates" in the pipeline. Even the experts are beginning to get concerned that our body will not know what to do when confronted with a pathogen, as there is no way to innoculate us against every known, as well as unknown, pathogen out there. I'm not against all vaccines, in fact, it's the rapid innoculation program at such a tender age with multiple vaccines in one shot that really concern me. Really, an 8lb baby, on average, getting the same amount of adjuvants, preservatives, and "fixtures" in his shot as a 150lb man? No way is that safe. We didn't have all these allergies years ago, before this massive vaccine program really got going. Vaccines are a huge moneymaker and may well be viewed as the only way for pharmas to keep the huge profit margins going once more and more people realize that big pharma drugs really do not work all that well, especially over the long haul. |

There are many comments from medical scientists on the net, that believe the vaccines are to blame.
I agree with you!

OK, today in my search for a good D3, I went to a little pharmacy that does compounding and carries stuff you can't get elsewhere...imagine my glee to discover a liquid D3 that you take with a dropper...brand is Xymogen and it's gluten free, soy free, yeast free, etc....contains sunflower oil which we all know is great for you.
The BEST part? ONE DROP (not dropperful, just one drop) has 1000IU in it! Five drops = 5000IU. Another BEST part? The entire bottle of just over 2 ounces has 1500 drops in it and was about twenty bucks. So, if I did the math right and we take ten drops a day, give or take a few spilled drops for the shaky hand factor,we have five months worth of excellent quality D3 for about fifteen cents a day. |

That is great! There is a post about the drops on the D thread
on Vitamin forum. I have some answers and links now on the main forum where that Study appeared today: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread139609.html Some rebuttal comments are starting to show up.

I doubt few folks reading that will realize the important thing is YOUR body's D3 levels, regardless of how much you have to take to get there. Someone may need to take 10,000IU to have a ng level of 60, someone else might only have to take 200IU. And BTW, I have several friends who have gone through breast cancer and all of them had low D3. Again, ugh is all I can say. |
