If you haven't heard of this once olympic cyclist then score one against yourself. If you havent visited his foundation website, score two, and if you haven't heard of his research and how his son is following in his footsteps, well - it's long overdue!
http://www.davisphinneyfoundation.org Another thread has been repporting on the benefit of cycling, and I want others to be sure to check out Davis' work. He has had a successful DBS and has much to share. Comments? (Sorry I have not been around much lately, but I am lurking ) Peggy Last edited by pegleg; 03-14-2011 at 01:57 PM. |

He was the lunchtime speaker at an NPF/APDA YO meeting I went to in Reston a few years ago--2006 I think. He had us throwing our hands in the air (like a winning cyclist) at every little accomplishment, such as getting out of bed that morning. He told his Tour de France stories, revealing courage and character that were inspiring. To this day, if I successfully navigate steps with no railing, or mail the bills on time, I shout "Another victory!" Davis Phinney believes in celebrating even the little achievements, not necessarily in competition, but sincerely and often.

I was at DPF's Victory day conference in san diego last month. It was one of the best one-day conferences I attended in a long time. Very informative, excellent speakers, good topics and extremely patient oriented. I came back feeling good about my ability to do things I can still do rather than focusing on what I cannot do anymore. I for sure, need that kind of positive thinking these daays!
Dave Phinney was there among the patients and talking and answering questions about DBS. I was talking with a very nice woman (who said her husband has PD) for a long time only to find out later in the day that is Mrs. Phinney! I raved about them and the foundation to all my friends. Check out their website and attend their one-day conference if you can. I am pretty sure it is free for participants, atleast the San diego conference was free for PwPs. Thanks Peggy for your introduction. Girija |

I haven't met Davis Phinney, but I've raised a a fair bit of money for the Davis Phinney Foundation through Pedaling for Parkinson's. DPF invests some of its funds in PFP as does the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Davis and his family do an incredible job as spokespersons for PD and advocates for those of us who share the disease.

Davis Phinney spoke at the Seattle Hope Conference a couple of years ago; Bill Bell is on the board of directors of the Phinney Foundation
