Default Fortitude through attitude

Here's the write-up in the Washington Post

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...ab19_blog.html

How do you build fortitude around a debilitating disease like Parkinson's?
Answer: one neuron at a time!

Miraculous might be a descriptive explanation in most instances, but let 's give credit where credit is due - Michael J. Fox is an extremely talented (not to mention popular) actor. What a lesson and living example of a never-say-never attitude!

The last paragraph of the Washington Post article says this series will be based on Michael's life. This will be a fantastic teaching tool to bring awareness to living with PD.

I would like to crawl inside the head of the infamous Rush Limbaugh right about now. One question for you, Rush . . . Do you think he's faking it now?!?

Default new regimen

i think he could help us by telling his new regimen. he has had it for over 20 years.. i agree that it's wide open for getting out both the nature of pd and seeing it regularly. the possibilities for scripts are many. but what is he taking that actually allows him to go to work?

MONEY MONEY MONEY and more money. They must spend a fortune to just work around him. Money well spent .............maybe..... if he sticks to the truth and nothing but the truth, they do have a way of making him seem better than he even is.

I saw him at his golf tourament here awhile ago and he didn't look that bad but still not as the reviews made him seem. His Mom is right there beside him all the way so he has lots of support here and I imagine at home as well. Isn't his son cute though lol

Default Mixed message?

Are reporters confusing a new drug regime with new drug development? I have seen both phrases in the story. Drug regime is in my mind new mix of old drugs. Then I think not possible as we do not have many options.

Would he have been allowed to try out the new extended release Levodopa IPX066 in advance? Maybe he was able to get on the phase III open label trial? The trial results were presented at AAN conference in April, and it is expected to be approved by the FDA in October.

Sounds crazy but plausible given the timing of things. Just think of the publicity and hoopla it will generate. IPX066 gets green light and it just happens he goes back to work at the same time?!? Maybe I should be buying some stock...

Any other ideas?

conductor,
from what i've read, IPX066 just a little better than stalvo and i think you can achieve the same benefit using a combo of normal and controlled release sinement, just not as easy.
fox has been on t.v. quite a bit in the last year. who knows, maybe he's on the agonist patch? i think it's just come back on the market.

Default As I heard it ...

The agonist patch suits newly dxed people as skin absorption is less efficient than oral absorption. Unlikely to help someone as far in as mjf.

Perhaps everyone is just working around him.

Neil.

Red face It could be all of the above!

Michael J. Fox has said himself that he was a non-compliant patient ( not an exact quote). He says he gets busy and is having such a good day that he forgets to take his meD's on time. Keeping dopamine levels consistent is crucial in avoiding fluctuations, especially when one is advanced in the disease enough to be stricken with dyskinesia.

The new control/released levodopa, the agonist patch, or simply switching to Sinemet controlled release part of the time could be what works magic for him. But there's a force stronger than any change in a medication regime . . . It's. Callled a "want-to attitude.". Mine needs work!

Default more news

New info within the last hour:
http://www.eonline.com/news/339507/m...-in-nbc-comedy

It will be on NBC and they have already ordered 22 episodes. He will play a New Yorker, married with three kids - and he has PD.

What great awareness for us!

They must work around him. Mjf is as advanced as many of us here, or even moreso, but continues to show (at least publicly) that pd can be controlled better than it is for most of us. I don't think that they will show him as writhing on the floor with dystopia, or in an "ugly"fit of dyskinesia, or in a "helpless" off.
It will be interesting to see how this show (a comedy!!"?) will echo the experiences of family dynamics that so many of us have had to deal with, things like loss of spouse, poverty, and social marginalization, due to job loss.
Over the years mjf, has given mixed messages to the public that pd is not really all that bad, at least not the crippling life destroyer as it has been for many of us. Cs
