Default Weekly Check-In June 17-23, 2007

Hi Everyone

It was a tough week for me..I threw my back out last Sunday at work, and I was in pain all week..I had a hard time straightening out after sitting/laying down..Thank God my girlfriend was here all week..I tried all the home remedies, and finally I decided to go to a Chiropractor on Friday..I didnt go to the guy I had seen a few years ago, because I think he knew I had either pd or something else and treated me for 8 months before he suggested that I see a Neurologist..He was kind of a fast talker and spent about 3 minutes with his patients..So on a reference from a couple of friends I went to see Dr Jim..He spent about a half an hour with me, and explained everything that he did, and after adjusting me he had me do some stretching excercises, because he says that it would improve my gait, and it did..He claims that because I have pd some of my muscles dont get proper use and they tighten up..My posture has improved 100%..Its as noticable to me as a sore thumb..I noticed that it was easier to get out of my truck when I got home..Anyway..I feel much better today, and Ive got 2 appointments with him next week, and now that my Medicare went into effect this month, it covers some of the tab..So I didnt get out in the boat this week at all, but didnt miss much because of that stalled front that brought Northeast winds all week..So from my prior experience with Chiropractic care..it is now apparent that pd causes bad posture, and Chiropractic care relieves some of the symptoms of pd, so Im going to stick with it

How was your week?

Default This week

Steve, We are a crowd of geriatrics aren't we!! I hope your back improves.
I am sitting here at the computer, bare to the waist, since my shoulder wound is pouring fluid and soaking everything I wear. (I had a fall last week and the greenhouse got in the way). Back to hospital tomorrow to get it dressed. I have the 2 inch piece of glass that buried in my shoulder as a trophy.
Well, here in the UK, it is Father's Day, my 3 "children" (the eldest is 40!!), will be coming with their families bearing gifts. Then at 5-00pm, time for Formula 1 car racing on the TV. the new British driver Lewis Hamilton is in poll position again, (he won last race).
Take care, (avoid greenhouses!!!)

Default Hi all!

just a few lines before I go to bed...I've been thinking up limericks about PD. I have to do something productive with my off time:

There once was a Parkie from York
Craving a nice piece of Pork
the pig was no fool
and made up a rule:
You can only chase peas with your fork!

A parkie got stuck in a chair
and feeling that just wasn't fair
the next day he said
I'll just stay in bed.
As far as I know he's still there!

I'll try be more creative tomorrow...gotta keep that grey matter working!

Steve, ouch about the back. I can certainly appreciate the situation. Seems like it will never go away when you pull something in your back.

I have been helping my daughter and her family her in PA pack up their home. they are moving south of Gettysburg by nine miles. They currently live nine miles north of Gettysburg.

I spent Friday with my 9-year old granddaughter, sorting through the "millions" if precious things she has . I also think she has saved every drawing and school paper she has ever touched since birth...LOL And, the books...yikes...a whole large box. The best part was when I told her she could keep two stuffed animals to take to the hotel Wednesday night (the in between houses, moving van took everything way, night). "But grandma, I can't be without them!" That is her most used words lately, "But grandma!" So, she picked up each precious stuffed creature, uttered its name, said goodbye to the creature, it and then, then handed it to me. I got to stuff it into a box where there were nooks and crannies to fill in spaces

Then it was on to my grandson's room today. They boys don't have all the tiny stuff.

Oh yes, it was determined that the two grandmothers would decide how best to fish-sit the fish and his tank, without grandma's cats getting to fish

I did quit in the middle of the day though. Friday wore me out, and I just didn't have the steam on Saturday.

Today I am off to Philadelphia my train to have hole bored into my head on Monday . No, I am not taking the idea lightly, but one has to find some humor somewhere. Reporting on Monday at 6:30am, someone gathers me from the waiting room at 8:30am, then on to the frame installation and the MRI, then the surgery.

Don't miss my wonderful name all over the place too terribly much.
I will be back in a week to return to haunting this forum with my presence

Have a

Carolyn, you will be greatly missed--who will post all the updated research and newest related articles? your upbeat personality will be missed. I wish you well; you will be in my thoughts and prayers. and remember Charlie's admonitions to anyone undergoing neurosurgery---WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN...and try not to touch the surgical sites. fortunately, you should be back with us in a short period of time. madelyn

Steve, daily stretch exercises are a must to keep our muscles from getting shorter, bad posture not only ends up in crooked spines, it also makes breathing harder.
Glad to hear you found a competent chiropracter and I hope you're duly grateful to your girlfriend for putting up with you!

You too, Ron?! Lewis Hamilton is too young to drive so fast, he can't even travel without his daddy!!

Fernando Alonso is a fellow Asturian, a "homey" of ours. So, Lewis to us is like the "Red Baron" to Snoopy. I'm not really a Formula 1 fan and even less so since Eccleston promised a new race course in Valencia, provided the very corrupt regional president won the elections again (which he promptly did). But my hubby is a huge fan, and subequently my weekends revolve around the Formula 1 timetables. It's almost worse than having a football-crazed husband!

Anyway...I hope your shoulder gets better soon, we don't need any additional stress in our lives and a shoulder is about one of the worst spots to have a wound. Keep us posted.

Default Formula One

Hi Teresa,
Well, Fernando Alonso the Spaniard would take his Daddy too if he could win 2 success races like the Englishman Lewis Hamilton. I suppose Ferdinand takes his Mummy!!!
Like your hubby, I too am a fan of formula one fan.
I used to get fed up when MIchael Schoemacker won every race, before he retired, but I don't mind at all that hamilton has been on the podium EVERY race he has been in!!!
Thanks for your kind words on my shoulder, it is not too bad, it could have been a lot worse.
Best wishes
Ron
