Default Has anyone acted on 23andme results successfully?

I received my 23andme results recently. I need to find someone to translate my results and advice me on which supplements to take. I'm also going to have a Nutreval test. What have those of you who have had the 23andme test done with the results?

I would be happy to have a look at your results - I did this for another NT member a while ago.

Usually the results are a readout of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs). Everybody has lots of SNPs because we are all unique in a genetic sense.

Most SNPs have no known clinical significance so I don't know how useful your results will be.

Thank you, are you on Livewello? My results are uploaded there.

I am not a member of Livewello.

Maybe you could send me a PM with your results as an attachment or as a link to them?

Default 23andme

When I looked at 23andme in some detail I thought it just gave general results. As a result I did not subscribe.

Rosy - I found the value from 23andme was getting a complete copy of my genome, which you can then upload to other sites for analysis.
These told me I had mutations for the genes that process vitamin D and B12. Is this the cause of my PD? I doubt I'll ever know. But from this info I started to take these supplements, and my goodness I feel better for doing so!

In response to a recent PM request from a NT member I had a look for sites which can annotate raw 23andMe SNP data.

Promethease (Promethease) looks reliable to me. It is cheap ($US5 per run).

I did a test run using the raw 23andMe SNP datafile which the NT member sent me.

I think that the output was clear and commendably cautious about the possible risk factors (both negative and positive) of SNPs reported by 23andMe.

I've been using promethease for years. It's definitely one of the best snp databases particularly for PD patients (they have good coverage of the PD related snps). It works very smoothly with the 23andMe data set.

I also highly recommend utilizing the Firefox browser add-on SNPTips, which makes it so easy to see your results for any snp when reading any article online related to genetics.
