I've seen a lot of posts here about the various symptoms, meds, and neuropathy treatment programs. But no one seems to talk about other things that might help you sleep better or make you more comfortable at home.
So I was wondering if anyone has ever tried a sleep number bed, adjustable bed, or tempurpedic mattress and if they helped you sleep better? I still have a water bed and find that I sleep better on it than a regular mattress because I don't toss and turn as much during the night to get comfortable. The other thing that helps me sleep is a supplement called "Night Time" from Andrew Lessman. It contains Melatonin, Valerian Root, Passion Flower, Chamomile, Hops, and 5-HTP. I take two caps right before bed time and it helps me sleep better without using prescription sleep aids that may have adverse side affects. |

I have an extra firm mattress with a memory foam topper.
Works well for me.

Firm, pillow top, memory foam topper. Humidifier and air cleaner going, eye drops or lube every few hours, except for the intermittent night when I go 6 hours solid sleeping.
I get horrible nightmares from melatonin. Won't touch the stuff any more. A serious case of RLS, as well. Use pramipexole, and no, nothing else works. Tried it all.

I also have a firm mattress, with a foam topper, keep the room cool, use a lightweight comforter.
I used melatonin for a while and it worked well to sleep. Using amitriptylene now, i no longer use melatonin. Amitriptylene helps me to stay asleep and usually to fall asleep, but i often stay up very late and dont fall asleep before 3 am. |

Hi
I have a firm mattress, with memory foam topper. I have a TempurPedic pillow for my head, and use a body pillow for the rest of me. I also use a space heater on fan for "white noise".

I fall asleep to PBS weeknites to BBC news and weekends to PBS Jazz, All-Nite
Extra firm, thick, H.D. mattress with pillow top (wish I had a memory foam topper- where do you get sheets that large in thickness?) No special meds to sleep other than my before bed doses of Lyrica & Tramadol at midnite.

I use Jersey stretchy sheets. But I think there are now sheets that are labeled "deeper".

Tried one of those memory foam pads and could not stand it. I was like stuck in one place and it was very hard for me to turn. So what we have works just fine. The weather affects us too. We know when it's going to rain or snow. Extra hurts then ![]()

The high density foam ones? {The tempers} I got very uncomfortable trying them out... I felt like I was constantly SINKING and it was disorienting.
Once out of them I still felt like I was moving! Tho I know of others w/severe muscular neuropathies that loved them. As for the sleep# beds? IF you web up radisson hotels+sleep# beds, you could try one out there for a nite? Seems to me that that try-out even at a $$ & nice hotel mite be a cheaper way to find out if you like them, without any commitment. Face it, the foam toppers help for the interim and while I don't use jersey fabric sheets? I use flannel ones I got on sale and they are great. One thing about those 'free' trials? You've gotta find a place to keep your old mattress IF this new one doesn't work out. AND then if you don't like the new one? The costs of returning it can 'get' you a bit. And...always make SURE that the mattress comes in 'factory wrapping' [tho I've no clue how to tell?] and factory box. That way you know it wasn't returned from a 'trial' before. BTW, ever notice how consumer reporting never really EVER says one mattress is better than another? It's kind of like our neuropathies I think....no two are ever alike. Went to visit youngest son in Boston area early this Nov. Slept on a 'sleep number' for 3 nites, different setting each nite. Felt like a pretzel in the a.m. Didn't like it. Took hours to 'work the kinks out' of my backache. Wife didn't like it either.
