I went to my sugical ophthalmologist, for my every 2 year eye appt.
I thought I needed a new Rx for my bi-focals, too.

After constantly telling the flunkies that I had 'halos' and blurred vision, and them telling me that my Rx corrected to 20/25 and they could do no better.... I finally saw my doc (he's now head of the Wilmer Eye Clinic at Hopkins) who I've been seeing for about 12 years, now.
After some other testing, he's found the culprit.

I have ptosis !
My eyelids are drooping and are covering my pupil to the point where my vision is obstructed in the upper 1/2 of my range.

Remedy?...... Corrective, plastic, eyelid surgery.
(don't like surgeries, they scare me....always have)

Outpatient work, twilight sleep. Home the same day.
Black & blue eyes for at least 1-2 weeks.
(not to mention post-surgical pain.... and whatnot)

Set for Fri., July 2nd, if I can get to my doc for a pre-surgical physical
on or after June 2nd. (gotta be within 30 days, pre-surgery)

July 4th is going to be a fun weekend!!

Bummer!! Only positive is that it'll be covered by Medicare, & my supplemental ins.

Don't think its a result of PN, just age (gonna be 66),
coincidence, ...... & a real BUMMER !

drooping eyelids? Before you have surgery, I think you need to
consider it might be Myasthenia Gravis.

I'd call the PN doctor and discuss this. The eyelids are the first signs in some patients. And your age is the common time for males.

Autoimmune issues, also connect to PN, and myasthenia both!

There are tests for this, blood work, etc. When was your last EMG? And I'd post at our Myasthenia forum:

Are you having weakness? Choking on food? Do you see better after a "rest"?

I think you need another opinion before having this surgery. Correction can come from medications like Mestinon.

My cousin had the same thing you are describing a few years ago. She is a non-PNer, and non anything. It's just a sign of age. Lots of people have this happen as we age. Some are not to the point of the "simple" surgery. I think your doc is right on. Her surgery fixed the problem.

HALOS? I got those when I started getting cataracts=surgery both eyes, and blurry vision that changed my glasses prescription greatly prior to my CIDP onset... It's an autonomic thing rarely cited as a symptom for CIDP any more. Don't know why-but after my onset? Vision went back to what it was before.
Therefore, check with the neuro? It certainly can't hurt to cover all bases.

No to all of the above. Last EMG was less than a year ago.

I've had 3 opinions -
2 at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Hopkins (one with the Head of the dept, Chairman & Professor of Ophthalmology, one with the examining optometrist) and one with the Professor of Oculosurgery and plastic surgeon.
It seems to be a simple case of age compounding my pre-existing
'bedroom eyes' .......all my life.
When I was younger and looked more like an eligible bachelor
(had a full head of hair, thinner, muscular, musician,
some said not too bad in the looks dept), all the girls
thought my 'bedroom eyes' were 'sexy'.
So did my first wife when I was 22, in college,
& engaged to be married. (& also when I found myself single, after my divorce, 15 years later)

I've looked at the MG symptoms, and aside from the ptosis,
don't think that it fits for me, except that my emphysema would mask the 'shortness of breath' in the description.

maybe you could have them throw in a few hair follicles while you are under since they are going to be up that way anyway.

Well if you lived in my house, you would be a chick magnet......literally.....16 of them peeping away in the spare room! Can hardly wait for hubby to try to sleep tonite.....peep, peep, trill, peep.....

If I were to go under the knife for eyelid surgery....I would have them lift all my baggage....what the heck.
