Recently started taking Nucynta (combo of demerol and anti-inflammitory) and wondered if anyone else was on this medicine. It seems to help to a degree and of course this is not the only thing I take. The Nucynta with a combination of 600 mg of Lyrica a day and 60 mg of Cymbalta a day. Oddly enough, I'm still in pain. Quick overview, failed fusion of L3, L4, L5, severe osteoporosis (-4.6) and osteopenia in my hips. Oh yes, and a megadose of pn. So I'd love to hear from anyone else on this medicine, the Nucynta, especially anyone that it's working for.
Thanks and best of luck to us all! ![]() |

Who told you Nucynta was a combo of Demerol and anti-inflammatory?
Because it is not. It is a souped up form of tramadol. Tramadol biochemically enhanced to be more potent. Demerol orally is not used much anymore because it is toxic over time orally (may cause seizures) and just is not absorbed well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapentadol Because it is also a norepi reuptake inhibitor, I'd expect additive and problems with a drug like Cymbalta. Some people on the RSD forum have tried it. So do a "search" there for those posts. It is fairly new and I haven't seen PN posts about it.

Thank you so much for the info Mrs. D. Will check it out. I'm really not having great success with it after a couple of months and was just hoping there was someone out there who was. Thank you again and best luck to all of us.

I just heard about this drug about an hour ago, went to and read the Wiki page, then came here and read the other thread and this one. I'd hoped there would be more.
Someone I know (Sjogren's Syndrome) had some luck with it, then developed some intolerable side effects. The Wiki article sounds so hopeful in some respects - and so enfuriating in others. Let's keep watching... Doc

No side effects for me (except for being sleepy). Can't seem to make it through to the end of a movie anymore. But I'm also not getting any real relief. I'll say that I do sleep well LOL. Just getting a little annoyed a missing the end of every movie I start to watch. I'm scheduled to go to Mayo in Jacksonville in December. A slew of appointments are all ready scheduled. Fingers crossed they can come up with a better treatment plan. Thanks for the input. Best of luck to all of us.
