I'd love to hear how pot works for neuropathy pain. I live in CA, where it is legal for medical. I have not tried it, but I have read an interview with talk show host Montell Williams, and its all he uses for his pain from MS.

I know that took a lot of fortitude, but I knew you could do it! Way to go! You Rock! |
pot on its own wont really help unless your happy to smoke a gram a day or 3 and be totally out of your mind. You wont have to worry about weight gain since consumption of foods will quadruple. problem is if you have serious pain then you need serious weed consumption , not a good look or everyday feel and if your work is challenging then bursting out in laughter at the next boardroom meeting for NO reason wont look good either
IMO some pot in conjunction with meds to strike a balance. |
Fentanyl was not complementary to me, neither was oxycontin. I seemed to intellectually dwell on my constipation.
I got lost going to the bathroom on Neurontin, which again left me preoccupied on my elimination, or at least finding the appropriate place to do it. I have not been in a Board Room in a very long time, wait a minute....I have NEVER been in a Board Room. |
Fentanyl continues to work well for me. Have been using it since 9 Jan 02. No side effects except constipation which is presently controlled with Metamucil. My 7 to 9 pain continues to be controlled and the pain is reduced to a 1 to 3 which I have learned to ignore. The only problems I have is related to age - will be 79 in March. Unfortunately fentanyl does not help with that. Does anyone know of anything that really helps with aging...other than death? I'm listening.

Ouch
I tried Neurotin but it didn't work. Dr put me on Cymbalta 60mg which worked for awhile but later added Lyrica 75mg. Lyrica made me sleepy but not too bad. However, the pain continues to get worse. My neurologist referred me to Johns Hopkins as, and I quote, "I don't know what to do with you. I don't want to give you any more drugs." Hopkins increased Lyrica to 150mg twice a day. I'm not sure if it helped with pain as I don't have any clear memories. I went for a follow-up with local neuro and she told me I could not drive and we phased off the Lyrica. I left a message for the doc at Hopkins and they told me the same thing. I can think again but pain... After I went off the Lyrica I stopped taking Cymbalta for 3 days just to see if it was working at all. I was in tears it hurt so bad. Back on Cymbalta and I can function sort of. I go back to Hopkins in 2 weeks. I guess I see what else we can try.

PS. Dan, I too have been a fan of the fentanyl patch..... I used to take the highest dose and they were a lifesaver for me.... I am grateful that my SCS has lowered my med intake to only needing breakthru (Lortab)..... BUT i recently asked my PM if I could have a few of the ol' patches to have on hand because I will be my daughter's birthing coach any day now....and if I have a patch on hand, I can just slap it on and not have to worry about taking pills for 3 days...... so hopefully I'll be good to go for however long her labor and delivery takes..... :).........course....I'll probably have to be sneaking a prune in here and there  Yes, I am a true believer in the patches. But in my case, it just got to be too much in my small community to have to depend on this highly controlled med and having my life revolve around the pharmacy and having to drive clear to the clinic to get a handwritten script to take to the pharmacy and sometimes they didn't have enuf in stock and yadda yadda yodle dee deee |
your own
I am going off all meds now. Redusing morphine a step at a time after 7 years on it. If I need pain meds, I may indeed move to a place I can grow my own pain relief. I have been asking around if this approach really works. Not too many respond to my questions. I hated all the meds that I was on, and so much want to go natural as much as possible now. Hope things work out for you. ginnie

I have a medical marijuana card and obtained it for the specific reason of trying to treat my neuropathy. My pain consists of all the classic forms in varying degrees from day to day. I have tried several meds and found them of little use or intolerable. The ones that seemed to work better I had a hard time tolerating. The marijuana is useful but there are things that it does to me that make it only usable on occasion. It does not actually kill pain, it just puts it in the background to make it more tolerable. I hope this adds some insight. I also hope you get better..... |
