Ice is being used more and more for arthritis pain.
Just don't overdo it. A good response to ice, means that there is some inflammation going on possibly. You might try Biofreeze for your knees, and back. This is also quite useful. I love Biofreeze. Overuse of heat, may inflame nerves further, so if you use any heat on your back, don't do hot and not longer than 15-20 minutes or the nerves may get irritated.
