Dear Mrs D: I have been taking Jarrow's Methyl B-12 5000 MCG chewable tablets on a daily basis for some time now for small fiber neuropathy. However, I recently noted on the bottle that Jarrow states that the dosage is only one tablet every three to four days. Am I wasting this by taking one tablet every day, when in fact I only need to take one tablet every three to four days? Thank you! David PS: I also note on the bottle that Jarrow states to take the tablet WITH food, which I know is incorrect! |

I don't know who puts that stuff on the bottles!
Some corporate decision, etc. It probably pertains to people looking to maintain levels...like vegans. It certain doesn't pertain to people who are therapeutically LOW. There are really no FDA rules on OTC labels except for making claims for treating diseases. SAMe does have permission, and the new Salonpas patches for arthritis. Supplement companies in general do not recommend much...and what is recommended is usually very cautious. There are also sustained release B12 by some vit companies. (this makes no sense either). This does not include the new product, coming out...which I haven't seen yet. Most vitamins go well with food...but oral B12 in this case when there is no intrinsic factor present will be lost in the food, and not absorbed well in the small intestine. People with intact intrinsic factor have less to worry about... but no one knows who this is, including doctors. If people are LOW then they need more, and on an empty stomach so there will be adequate absorption. edit to say--- Here is an example of opposite labeling! http://www.lef.org/Vitamins-Suppleme...cobalamin.html Quite a difference eh?

Dear Mrs. D:
I appreciate your reply, but you did not address the first part of my question, which was: "I have been taking Jarrow's Methyl B-12 5000 MCG chewable tablets on a daily basis for some time now for small fiber neuropathy. However, I recently noted on the bottle that Jarrow states that the dosage is only one tablet every three to four days. Am I wasting this by taking one tablet every day, when in fact I only need to take one tablet every three to four days?" I look forward to your thoughts! Regards, David |

The only way to see if you are "wasting" anything is to have a blood level drawn.
The B12 is inexpensive, and not harmful (no upper tolerable limit) so why worry about wasting? If you test over 2000, you can drop down to 1mg daily, if you prefer. But who says their labeling is true or accurate? That is point. Everyone is different. So Jarrow says every 3 to 4 days, and LEF says up to 8 tablets daily? Which one is right? Both are correct for certain results, and this varies from person to person.
