Default Foot Cramps Again

I've been free of nightly foot cramps for many months, but this week I've experienced three episodes of severe cramping in my left foot. I've stayed on my supplements, but I must admit that my recent work schedule has been severely taxing, and my diet and exercise regimen has fallen by the wayside.

If anyone has any thoughts or comments on this, I'd appreciate hearing them. If not, then I will just have to try to improve the diet and exercise issues and see if that helps.

As always, thanks.

I have cramps in my left foot too... that is where my big scar
and surgical damage is. Painful for the first two toes next to the
the big toe is what cramps...and it is a devil to relax.

They are worse in the cold weather, because I stick that foot out from under the covers alot.

I have taken to rubbing in magnesium lotion at night, and it
is helping. Also anything that hits my instep there where the tumor was, ends up irritating the nerves and then I get cramps later in the day. So watch how you lace up any tie shoes or
any slip-on types that may be hitting that area. That is where the
Tinel sign is tested by podiatrists. You can test yourself by firmly tapping the top of the foot with a hard object...handle of a butter knife works, or a wooden spoon. It you get ZINGS toward you toes, that is a sign of compression.

I hope you do not have a clutch in your car/truck to work with that foot. I became so bad 2 cars ago, I couldn't drive a manual anymore. So I only have automatics now.

Thanks, mrsD.

We've established that CVS no longer markets magnesium lotion. What else is available?

I have a clutch, but have had no issues up til now with regard to that. I could be mistaken, but I think it all comes down to stress and my crappy diet and exercise routine. But I thought I would post up for suggestions like the mag lotion . . . how about increasing my oral mag? Right now, I am at 300 mg per day.

Some of the CVSs still have it on the shelf. When I talked to mine on the phone the other day, they said they still had some.
So I guess it varies by locale.

Epsom-It is very similar:

If you Google Epsom-It --you'll find other outlets, some more expensive.

You don't use a ton of it at a time...so the bottle lasts a while.
I am surprised how long mine lasts! I use it quite a bit too.

Don't underestimate that clutch... over time it becomes a
"repetitive strain" I think.

I see that Nivea Essentials has some magnesium sulfate listed in it's ingredients. I don't know if it is enough. It is Nivea in ble bottle.

I've been sleeping on two bars of ivory soap since the beginning of the year. Got nothing but pressure bruises on my feet/legs.

That is interesting about the Nivea...

I think manufacturers are adding magnesium to lotions now.
I've read many ingredient lists on skin care products and magnesium never was commonly listed before. I've noticed that magnesium DOES help make the skin softer.

The way the FDA requires ingredient labeling is that the order
of the list, goes from highest to lowest in concentration.

So the Epsom lotion from CVS has magnesium sulfate FIRST...
The Nivea does not..in fact it is pretty far down the list.
Another hint is weight of the bottle. The Epsom lotion is VERY heavy for 8 oz. I can't test weight on the Nivea, but I would hazard a guess that it is not so heavy.

Still it is interesting to see some on that product. Thanks for bringing it here for all of us to share.

Some use Ivory soap bars for RLS and swear by it. They do not sleep on the bars they are in the bed between the sheets I believe. Anyway that's what I have read. It works for some and not for others who have RLS.

I recently purched "epsom-it" from a web site. I can't remember the name. It is manufactured by epsom-it, Inc.

The first 2 ingredients listed are water and magnesium sulfate. It wasn't expensive. I haven't used it yet. I am still using epsom lotion from CVC.
