When my neurological symptoms started, one of the tests requested by my Primary Care Physician was the Hepa Profile. The results were as follows:
HBsAG Screen - Negative Hep A Ab, Igm - Negative Hep B Core Ab, Igm - Negative Hep C Virus Ab - 0.1 (with reference range of 0.0 -0.9 s/co ratio) However, as I was cleaning my files today, I found an old medical result of Hepa Profile taken last 2004 (this was taken in my country). I totally forgot about it. Everything negative (including Anti-HBc Igm), except for the Anti HBe which was positive. I found on google the meaning of the results which I find it confusing: 1. Hep B Core Ab, Igm - detection of acute hepatitis B infection. Question: Since my recent result is negative, does it mean that I dont have an infection? 2. Anti HBe - to monitor chronic hepatitis b infection. Question: Since m y result is positive, does it mean that I have an infection? Given these results, can this be the cause of my neurological symptoms? I am so anxious about this new development!!!! I will appreciate your ideas. Thank you. |

Thank you very very much for your replies. I have not been able to sleep last night due to worries about the HepB.
Mrs.D : You dont know how i appreciate your efforts in looking up the link for me. Thank you for ALWAYS for providing me with the answers to my questions. En bloc: Thank you for always "chiming" in your own expertise based on your own experiences/conditions. Since I developed this neurological symptoms, NeuroTalk has become my refuge. I dont know you guys personally but I feel I know you in spirit. You provide me with the security blanket which I needed most. Thank you so much. I have had a blood transfusion in the '70s. My worry now is, can it be the one that is causing the nerve damage? Oh, God, I hope not! I could not get an early appointment with my PCP to get at least a dfinitive interpretation of my hepB results. But, I doubt if she can answer my question on whether its causing the nerve damage. |

--is fairly well documented as a possible cause of neuropathy:
http://neuromuscular.wustl.edu/nother/infect.htm#hepc Hepatitis B can be a cause of neuropathy, but it is more likely to be result in neuropathy if it causes vasculitis, similarly to how various autoimmune anti-nuclear-antibody associated conditions can rsult in it: http://www.neuropathy.org/site/DocSe...pdf?docID=1072 http://www.foundationforpn.org/livin...hepatitisB.cfm http://peripheralneuropathycenter.uc...patitisB.shtml http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18579284 |

I had another test for Hepatitis Be AB (after the test in 2004), and the result was "Negative". Of course, I am not complaining, but could this be accurate?
I thought that once you are positive with Hep Be, you will be positive. In fact, this is what the Physician Assistant at my PCP clinic said when she gave me the request! |
