No, don't take Cymbalta. I was wondering how Tramadol could be affecting liver when I had only been on it for 3 months. At times during those three months I was on low dose like 25 to 100 mg per day.

I also think Lyrica is MUCH better than Gabapentin!!! It's pain relief properties are superior to the Gabapentin! I get much more pain relief with the Lyrica and it lasts MUCH longer plus the dosage is of course a lot lower!
I'd recommend Lyrica over Gabapentin any old day! Besides, it doesn't cause the water retention that Gabapentin usually does! At least it's not as severe! Thanks for mentioning it, Malawigirl08. Take care all. Hugs, Lee

If you have a corresponding loss of liver functions... say from a virus, or hepatitis you don't know you have, or a creeping cirrhosis, tramadol will not be metabolized properly.
The pharmacology sites say some of tramadol is not metabolized anyway and is excreted in the urine unchanged. About 30%.

Many years ago I had a Hepatitis B hit on a blood test. Test was redone and same result.
Doctor concluded I fought off infection and I am not contagious. I have not brought it up at my PN appointments as it was never asked. Could this be a factor? |

Here is an article with statistics explaining the connection between liver disease and neuropathy:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC493959/ It is apparent that only some with liver problems have PN.
