Due to alcohol consumption over the years I have developed ulnar neuropathy and as i result I cannot full extend my small and ring finger fully. By reducing the alcohol, it has become better.
My question is... can it be fully reversed? Consultants over here (UK) say 'No' but we are still in the dark ages with this stuff. Any thoughts?

Are they very sure the PN/alcohol is the cause for the clawing?
I ask because in the past some with thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS for short) have had a nerve getting pinched or compromised, that caused the hand to claw. Usually the nerve was affected up near the neck area. Have you had a MRI of the cervical spine to check for issues there? Just to be sure. Use the search link in my siggy to look for more info on claw, clawing, claw hand etc.

To be honest Jo' it was me that decided it was alcohol based! I have had a bad past history and now find that the hand is no longer soar if I limit my alcohol intake... however if I go on a mad multi-day session it flares up nastily.
I will have a look into an MRI scan, I had one a couple of years ago when I was admitted for a post alcohol seizure, but I never got any feedback on what they were looking for (other than 'we cant find anything wrong with you') - I did have entrapment surgery at the elbow, but again they said the nerve wasn't trapped, just tight. They apparently 'slackened it off' (???), but there has been no improvement and that has almost been 2 years now. Thanks for your input Jo, it is much appreciated. ![]()
