symptoms after taking a rabies booster
Took a booster shot of anti-rabies (Rabipur 2 shots) after playing with a pet dog (the dog did not attack or bite me but there was a cut with some bleeding). Last shot was on 26th April.
Nine days later, on 5th May, just after midnight, I had a tonic-clonic convulsion just after falling asleep. I have no personal or family history of seizures (febrile or epileptic) I had venous brain MRI done the next morning which was normal. In the evening I had a lot of bloodwork and an EEG done and both were normal. Neuro said that Rabipur could lead to ADEM but since MRI was clear that didn’t seem to be the case. The very next day following the seizure, I started experiencing humming/buzzing sound and slight giddiness whenever I would get up. I also noticed that this would happen whenever I would get up after lying down any time of the day. After a week, the throbbing went away on its own but the humming has since become permanent. I went to my ENT when the humming and giddiness started and he diagnosed it as Tinnitus. He also did an Audiometry test which showed mild hearing loss, especially in the right ear. The ENT said that Tinnitus + giddiness could be either because of an infection, or because of DAMAGE TO THE CRANIAL NERVE or idiopathic. Around 8-10 days after the seizure (about 17-19 days after the vaccine), I started to have extreme back pain out of nowhere. The neuro asked me to get an X-ray of the dorsal spine which was normal. I did a 5 day course of tramadol when the back pain went away but it came back in full force after I finished the course. It too has become permanent (it varies in intensity from day to day). A week after the seizure, I also started having pins and needles sensations in my legs. Initially, I would experience only this when I was sitting. I also started having muscle twitches randomly a few times a day. One fine day (not very sure when), I woke up to find my left hand fully asleep. Since then the tingling/pins and needles/numbness increased a lot. I also started getting A LOT muscle twitching all over my body. In the last 1-2 weeks, the numbness/tingling in my hands and legs has increased a lot. I also get shooting pains in my hand/leg that come and go away. Whenever, I pick something up, my hands start to pain immediately. Climbing stairs (only 2-3 stories) leads to a lot of leg cramping, tingling, discomfort and shooting pain. The rigidity in my hands causes difficulty in typing (for example) and makes it very difficult for me to lift anything for an extended period of time. I have also rarely experienced tingling on the right side of my forehead. I also wake up with a lot of numbness in my hands everyday. In the last 2 days, I have noticed a lot of numbness in my right leg and it moves in an “irregular” fashion when I walk. Since then, I have tried to find whether the vaccine had anything to do with the seizure and the symptoms that I have suddenly started experiencing. I scoured the VAERS database which records adverse events after vaccine use in the United States. These are reported by public health authorities and physicians. I found 63 cases of seizures in adults (25-44) who had no history of epilepsy or seizures and had their first seizure 0-20 days following RABIPUR. The number of first time convulsions after ALL Rabies vaccines was over 300. Some of those 63 cases also listed tingling in the arms and legs and muscle twitching as symptoms. My Neuro agrees that I had some sort of autoimmune/hyper immune reaction to the vaccine. He also told me that muscle twitching is a common feature of motor neuron disease but he also clarified that it doesn’t mean that I have it and he wants me to wait and see what happens. However this has scared me a lot. I have also read that tingling, muscle weakness and muscle twitching can be due to CIDP. My family doctor feels I have developed peripheral neuropathy as part of the vaccine reaction and it will take a few months to a year to go away. I havent done a NCS/EMG and lumbar puncture yet Can anyone let me know what this sounds like? |

hello help. I had 3 imovax rabies vaccine, in between sept-oct 2014, I started off with sharp shooting pain (after the 2nd needle), then on to tingling after the 3rd. My back was sore in one spot and still is. I have tingling randomly thru my body. I also feel like I'm wearing something on my Lower legs and lower arms, I twitch and jerk everywhere. Mostly when I'm Sitting. I've had a couple good days where I felt. I notice my left side is "asleep" I think I no what u are Talking about with the viberation . I had that in my lower back a few Times after having the vaccines. I also notice if I try and fall asleep when I want to take a nap, I can't because and arm or something will jerk. I have seen a few doctors already. And I have had a nct done, which said my nerve were leg teenage nerves? Lol except for my left elbow where they said the nerve was pinched by the funny bone, and then said my right wrist had carpel tunnel. But I don't have the symptoms of that? My pinky a on both hands are Numb? They first thought I had ms, I had a scan on my head, that come Back clear. I am waiting for one on my cervical spine. I seen an internist that told me that he thinks it sensory cipd. But the nct said no. Funny thing is then didn't do th 2nd part of it. The dr also figured maybe transverse mylitis . Or a motor nueropathy .I'm finally seeing a neurologist. After a 9 month wait. So we wi see what he says. |

No, for some reason they didn't do the emg part, I do believe it's all and emg, but they only did the nerve conduction test on me. I will be asking the neurologist when I see him. Why they only did the one test. I also mentioned about doing a nerve biopsy or muscle biopsy and they said something about not like doing them because it take forever for them to heal. |

For those who didnt read trough the whole thread, I came here a few months ago with possibe limb neuropathy with numbne8ss after rabies shot. It all got better except for about 2 months I was experiencing tightness in my left side of face. That got much better last week.but what I am noticing is different size of pupils sometimes trough the day. Left is slightly smaller especially in low light. Anyone else has this? I thought i was good and now this...
Edit: I was on MRI and didnt get the evaluation yet but I got my CD. What do you think about the left side of the neck?? http://imgur.com/lrg7KGw This is how it looked in 2012 and nobody was alarmed by this so I hope its nothing serious.. Just that it is not symetric. Thats what scares me.. http://imgur.com/wmAoMMX |

Interesting . And they have not said anything to you? Did you have twitching as well after the shot. ? Or does your symptoms come and go? |
Come and go.. Nobody has yet said anything about the new mri. I have to wait unfortunately. My current symptoms are the eye and a little weakness in my hand that comes and goes. But nothing that would have had impact on my life.. yet.......

The nuoligist appt was a waste. He doesn't want to do anymore Test. I have to wait for this to get worse or better? I'm scared |
Go to an immunologist ASAP. Probably much helpful

any updates
no updates for some time?
My tingling has gone down somewhat but he twitching continues...it flares when I am tired or have a hot shower. I also have weird muscle and joint pain, problems recalling names/wprds and I keep making spelling mistakes. Dr feels that these are chronic fatigue symptoms which can be because of some CNS inflammation. Pls keep me updated |

I'm in a researching mood today and have a bit of time.
Small fiber neuropathy following vaccination for rabies, varicella or Lyme disease. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19808027 I couldn't find a full text version so this is just the abstract. |

This vaccine screwed my life. But I keep active as much as possible. I have a 7 year old to have fun with. And with small fiber , do you have normal reflex with it? |

Not diagnosed is what we have. It's very frustrating. The dr Told me there was no test that would show anything . |
What I am going to describe is very different than what everybody else on this thread has experienced. But I am including it here just in case someone going over this thread has had similar experience.
I am a 58yr old male. In March of 2013 I was bitten by a dog. There was a small delay in starting the vaccination for rabies but I finally got it. It was probably between 10 and 14 shots (I don't remember exactly). I didn't experience any reaction as most people on this thread have. But about the same time (I don't know for sure if it was before or after the dog bite and vaccinations, I started having a slight difficulty pronouncing some consonants. At first I didn't pay much attention to this and that's why I don't know exactly when it started. But it was for sure in the first semester of 2013. My symptoms continued to get worse and while at first my doctors said it was just stress, about one year later I got a diagnosis of bulbar-onset ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). If you haven't hear about it, that's a motor neuron disease also known in the US as Lou Gehrig's disease and some people know about it due to the ice bucket challenge which is done to collect funds to look for a cure. Looking on the web I have not found any connection between rabies vaccination and ALS. It is possible that it was just a coincidence, and given the fact that the mechanism by which ALS is triggered is still unknown, I don't want to discard the possibility that that was the trigger, perhaps in conjunction with other factors. There are other events in my life that may have been the cause or contributed. For example I had a head concussion in my twenties and I have been occasionally exposed to some chemicals like herbicides and pesticides. Also there is the possibility that the dog bite was what triggered it and not the vaccine. But the fact that my ALS symptoms started not far from the time I got the dog bite and vaccinations makes me still suspect about it. Something interesting is that apparently due to the fact that there are some people that are fanatically against vaccination in general, the medical community often does not what to consider the possibility of any vaccine having any negative effect. I registered and filled all the questionnaires in the National ALS Registry (USA), and while they did ask about exposure to chemicals, head trauma, etc. there were no questions about vaccination, medication or use of recreational (mostly illegal) drugs. As those are things that enter the body, they could all be a trigger for ALS. On a final note, as you can see if you read this whole thread, most of the time when a rabies vaccine causes neurological symptoms, it is not ALS. I am saying this to avoid causing unneeded anxiety if you have been vaccinated for rabies and later develop some neurological symptoms. If on the other hand you don't develop sensory symptoms but experience weakness in your limbs or slurred speech, difficulty swallowing and muscle twitches, you should consult with a good neurologist and get an EMG done. |
My husband experienced the same symptoms when he took one of the statins years ago for high cholesterol. He did stop taking it and the symptoms went away.

Statins are known for killing cells. Any cells.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19uxXqWF8h4 This biochemical pathway is essential for all cells, not just muscle. |
That was a very interesting interview--my husband also had a lot of shoulder and muscle pain like the doctor. We both stopped taking them after our daughter-in-law read an article in the Peoples Pharmacy column of the local paper about statins and all the damage they cause. We both knew there was something wrong but the symptoms don't begin until you've been on the drug for quite a while--long enough that you don't tie your symptoms to the statins.
Thanks for posting that interview. |
Hey ya'll.
Well I am happy to report I am now 2.5 years post vax and I am back to normal. My disappointing flare I had late last year was the last one I have had and it dissipated in ~45 days. I am finally feeling back to normal. :D |
