Default antibiotics with SFN

Hello everyone,
I think I recall that there are certain antibiotics people with neuropathy should not take. I tried to find something under search but couldn't. Does any know which ones we shouldn't take? I am currently taking Amoxicillin 875mg twice a day for a sinus infx. It seems to really be causing inflammation in my stomach.

I stay away from Mycins, especially Gentamycin. Can be ototoxic. I even have that on a med. bracelet.

Of course the meds listed above also.

Be sure to eat lots of good quality yogurt, kefir, or take probiotics. I got C Diff from Amoxicillin years ago.

Looks like the bases are covered well on this thread so far.

Ditto on the Kefir.... Lifeway has 12 strains to help heal up after antibiotics. It is far better than yogurt.

Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum antibiotic and kills off alot of
bowel flora. A better choice for upper respiratory infections is Zithromax, which does not do that quite so much.

To avoid if possible:
Cipro
Levaquin
Avelox
other fluoroquinolones
Flagyl
Tindamax
Zyvox (which is usually a drug of last resort)
Macrodantin/Macrobid

Unfortunately this list seems to grow by the year!

Thanks to all of you. I will try the Kefir. I will have to look it up I am not sure what it is. I din't know you could get C-diff form antibiotics. Mrs. D. I am looking at the list of antibiotics you sent. I have had severe allergic reactions to Cipro and Sulfur drugs. Wonder if it is in amy way connected.I'm sure I will never know.
As a side note are any of you gluten free? I am and was wondering if any of you saw the news concerning rice and arsenic. Everything I eat down to my milk is just about rice base. Now I don't know what to do.

http://lifeway.net/Products/Kefir.aspx

This is coming to many stores now. It is not expensive and is very tasty. Kroger's and Costco now have it near me.

I've been now using this instead of yogurt since last Sept 2011.
It has be one of the best things I've tried.

The women here will find extra benefits for female issues as well.
That took about 2 weeks for me.

Mrs. D, I have been taking Kefir (strawberry flavor) for more than 6 months now. I stopped for 2 weeks because of my lactose intolerance diagnosis. However, with the antibiotics that I am on now, I need to protect my digestive system. Although Kefir is 99% lactose free, I still take lactase before drinking it. Anyway, my concern is the sugar content. Do you have any issue on the sugar content of Kefir (i guess its 20grams per cup).

No it does not bother me. I started with the plain one last year.

Then recently I now use the fruit ones. I don't eat alot of sugar anyway, so this is staying below some tolerance level for me.

I have a small bottle every other day or so, now. I started with 4 oz daily of the plain. These person sizes come 12 to a box from Costco now. A quart can last me almost a week.

I still cannot tolerate alot of sugar, but this seems to be okay for me. I think most of the sugar content is from the fruit in it.

I have some lactose problems too, and avoid ice cream for that reason. I use Lactaid milk too. But I think there is negligible lactose in the Lifeway Kefir.

I do find the lactic acid in it, best tolerated with food however.
