Default Mel

Me as well, can you repace any ingredients for a diabeic who likes
muffins?? i'm sure Bob can tell his girlfriends all about them!!

Yorkie mom were you in the middle of those awful Texas Storms,my son
and wife make it ok in OK!! We are about to get the end of them in Mo.

Mel i' going to start a BOB-AND-FRIENDS rent business for those who, like
myself. Who drop more food on the floor then get in there mouths..But it
was YM idea so i will lend him and the girls to her.

Jak i'm just a couple yrs. older then you, come back and do what you need
to do ,i hope i never get to the point where i can't listen. I remember when
the hands went, the PN came to visit my hands,i thought goes your dignity
Sue. It just slows me down a little and it's harder to open things. Most of
all i wanted to stop going to resturats, what a chore, tying to hold napkins
piled all over me with my left hand,so not to drop food all over my clothes.
People are staring i would tell my children, they would look around not seeing
seeing what i thought i was seeing..So they told my 91 yr.old aunt,very
wise very funny, for my 60th birthday all wraped in a lovely box,she made a
beautifull lace what look like a bib!! On it she embroided STARE AT ME AND
YOU WILL GET WHAT I HAVE!!I just love her,had people come up and ask
where they could buy them. I just told them one of a kind Sue

Default Is there a single person here...

who has NOT experienced THIS to any degree?

http://www.msif.org/en/ms_the_diseas...elination.html

Never forget that for folks w/MS the demyelination occurs in the brain and is less likely to repair. We are lucky that we can and DO benefit from their plights' advocacies and researches.

Venting IS useful, it is necessary. Use what is and can be learned to the fullest. I wholly agree with BobB that pain control has to be the priority now.

If you are in an HMO, go and read your plan booklet-then if they have an on-line site...go to the site map and find out what the P& P's [policies/procedures] are for appeal...talk to a 'patient representative' [knowing who THEY work for] about your need and concerns about pain issues and potential therapy denials.... Reading THE BOOK - and getting to the site map you can query about specifics and know where the HMO is coming from [containing costs?]
Otherwise aside from appeals, if you have options for other plans during an open enrollment. When the time comes, if you or any others need to know what to look for...I can help some...I used to be an benefits coordinator[one of many] for a big company on the east coast...over 20 plans- 50/50 HMO and PPO's.. and all the snags that can go with enrolling, retiring, disability and COBRA. All I can do is see what's out there for P&P, but at least you'd know the lay of the land? Employers can be penny wise and pound foolish in regards to many PAIN issues. Others here can attest better than I that getting done what needs to be done CAN be done.

I Hope venting can be constructive - j

Default For Lanny42 and others with PN pain - Methadone

Lanny42, I have tried the patches...I wouldn't recommend them for several reasons. They are very expensive. They don't last the 3 days they're supposed to, barely 2. They are a hassle to keep track of. You will build up a tolerance to them very quickly and have to increase constantly.

I have tried just about everything. What worked the best for me, and still is 6 mos. later is, believe it or not, methadone. It works very well for nerve pain. It has very little to no side effects. It is easy on the body(few metabolites).
Tolerance is very slow to develop. It is unbelievably inexpensive. It was approved last June. for pain treatments. It has helped me more that anything.
I know it has a bad rap as a heroin withdrawal drug, but for pain relief, it has no equal. My pain specialist recommended it and I'm glad he did. Hope this helps. Nacho.

Hi Nacho:

Does the methadone affect the digestive tract like the fentanyl pain patches (or vicodin) did??? Alan never was able to go to the bathroom while he wore these patches. He went, maybe once a week. I mean, it did what it had to do for the pain but the side effects were horrible. And he was up to 125 of the fentanyl. My friend who had stage 4 lung cancer, (this was 5 years ago), we only went to 100 of the patch before he passed away.

Just imagine, Alan was on 125 of the patch and took vicodin for breakthrough pain. All I can say is thank God for Dr. Theirl and whatever he did to get rid of Alan's pain so now he doesn't use anything for pain!!!

FOR SUE:
If you read my recipe for the muffins, there is no sugar added. Of course there is some sugar because it starts with a Jiffy muffin mix but after that, it's all splenda and no sugar added apple sauce.

I think, if you go on the interent and type in "no sugar muffins", you might get a recipe using bisquick, or pancake mix and sugar substitutes.

But honestly, I eat one or two of these things every day and this morning my sugar reading was 117. It was 400 4 years ago. So I must be doing something right??? I never put sugar in my coffee or whatever. There is no sugar in my house. I only use Stevia or Splenda.

Thankfully, we have these muffins so if Alan wants a snack, besides his cereal, yoghurt, bananas, etc. (he eats all night by the way) & I don't eat after 6 p.m., well, I guess I don't have his metabolism and he goes to the gym every other day so he builds muscles.

The day I pick up a weight again, well shoot me!!!

Melody

Default Hi both of you,

Hey,
I remember handing out a tiny cup of Medthadone to heroin addicts
in the 70's. It was court ordered then, there only complaint was burning
in the stomack. I always had mixed feelings about the whole thing.
But it's a 2007, do you get the script like morphine sr where you have
to have it mailed in or have to walk (which is more like stagger) for
me, into the drugstore??? I wonder is it legal in every state??

Thanks Mel got you..Do you remember Scalloped Corn or Corn Pudding??
My daughter 5 more days and counting had a graving for mom's what
she remembered was cornbread, all i could think of was Jiffy mix and
creamed corn. Give me a few days i'll get it..2 hrs. later a e-mail mom that
was so YUMMY !! But i think somethink was missing,by the time i e-mailed
it to her,the graving was over.. to everybody Sue

Default Methadone...

After I had a nasty burning reaction to radioactive iodine that would NOT stop, a friend, who is maintained on Methadone, gave me one pill. Boy, did it do a number on me. The pain stopped all right-it was HIGHLY effective for that-and it lasted about 24 hours... However, I could not keep my eyes open so that I could see the direction to the bathroom, where I was throwing up all night. It felt like I was on an all night drunk... I know you are supposed to eat with this-I probably did not eat enough.

She takes 3 Methadone daily, plus Oxycontin to counter breakthrough pain. She is managed by a Pain Management doctor, and for her, this works. For me, I don't think I could take this much, or if so, it would have to be a tiny, tiny dose... She is in severe pain constantly. (The cause? I am not sure, but I suspect a link to implants which she does not want to have removed...)

Default Methadone for Pain

Methadone comes in small (5mg) and up tablets. It is very strong, and very effective. If you take too large a dose, like anything, you WILL get sick. I started very low and slow under a Drs supervision.
I had very little constipation compared to fentynal or morphine or vicodin.
I had very little side effects at all. I didn't notice a buzz either like you get from vicodin or oxycontin. It didn't make me sleepy either, but I don't take large doses. I don't have to. 5mg every 6 hrs works great for pain reliel for me. I get a 3 mo. script every 3 mos. Nacho
