"When you come in the house and your feet start to defrost and you get that burning feeling."

YEP. FOR SURE. Exactly.

I have to turn my socks inside out so the seem is on the outside. Tennis shoes do make it worse but if it is cold enuf then I can do it as long as it stays cold and my feet do not start overheating.

I can't imagine wearing flip flops, even as a kid I could never keep them on or walk in them, poor muscle control and balance. I did wear Birkenstocks in the snow when I had a foot infection a few years ago. I could step right into a slush pile and never feel a thing. Now i am limited to sneakers or "cute" orthopedic shoes- Mary Janes in a size 12 which arent very really all that cute but give me some stability. I cried when i gave all my Dankos to my daughter, my instep had gotten too high for them, even with an adjustable buckle. I am constantly on the lookout for novelty colors, but the style, whether propet, drew, or softwalk are all about the same. I think we should form a support group for women who have to give up pretty shoes.

My feet are also always freezing, but for some reason I reach a point every evening where my socks literally feel like they are choking me, all of a sudden, as if my throat and ankles were somehow connected. My feet don't swell, I have really skinny ankles, and wear those "world's softest socks" but it still happens every day without fail.

Then I found my feet could not tolerate the ribs or even the fuz on the bottom of them. I agree with both you and Stacy, I describe my neuropathy as being out in snow and getting it in your boots. When you come in the house and your feet start to defrost and you get that burning feeling.

I would say the the pain is more of a burn...like a fire under and on top of my feet...but today is a good day not too bad

Guess I will be wearing my flip flops to the holiday party. there will be alot of family there and 3 large dogs that are always happy to see me. I will cross my fingers and take some alka seltzer like MrsD suggested. I was also thinking about trying Bio freeze. At this point I want to stick my feet in a tub of ice but I know it will just make things worse.

Dawn, I can hear your frustration and understand it. Its something made worse for me since it seems like my husband simply can not understand it and therefore it FEELS like he thinks I am crazy. Then it also seems the more anxious, upset or stressed I get, it seems to also worsen my symptoms.

I was shopping at the mall yesterday and I almost ALWAYS wear slip on shoes so I have access to my feet and all of a sudden they burned and hurt so bad. My husband thought I was crazy cuz I slipped off my shoes while standing in line at register, but the small act of slipping them off helps so much because the floor was so cold. I had socks on.

I try not to get too stressed and stay calm since I firmly believe it aggravates it.

Good luck Dawn, take deep breaths and hope for the best.

Stacy,

When I have told my boyfriend that my feet were burning he as grabbed my foot and says they feel cold. Now its all in my head.

Guess thats why I wear the flip flops as I will take them off and let my feet rest on the cold floor

I know the feeling; but do, most of the time, live in slip on velcro sandals. No back; but can adjust the front strap. Cannot have my toes covered. Even socks are uncomfortable. Might look a bit better than a fllip flop. Just a thought....

I guess I should be thankful that I can still wear socks occasionally and covered shoes.

It's the little things in life.....

I finally had to wear socks and tennis shoes yesterday. I was fine while we were out but when I got home I paid the price.

I am another flip flop lover! Although I live in the DC area, I wear them as long as I can. This year this burning has become very bad-wearing tennis shoes DRIVES ME NUTS!! Even loosely tied-I dont know why. I even end up taking them off when I'm driving. In the barn I wear Ariat pull on barn shoes and the don't bother me at all. Wish I lived in a climate where I could wear flip flops year round.......I have to make sure they are not "loose" and fit snuggly in the toe point area, otherwise I have a hard time keeping them on
