I'm in my early 30s.
A month ago I was blow drying my body ( haha first time applying self tanner! ![]() BUT. I can feel touch, temp etc. ![]() So I went to my GP. He did a very quick test in the office with touch, vibration etc. he thought all was fine. So I went to a neurologist in my area. She did the same tests but also ran an emg and nvc today on me, I won't find out the results until next week but the technician said it looked fine. Routine office tests though seemed fine. Then a week ago one day my right leg was FINE (I have been running the blow dryer in them a few times a week to check). I compared it with the left- yup still felt partially numb. This is when I knew I was not imagining this slight numbness. The right leg was back to feeling NORMAL. The next day, and since, they are both partially numb again to the blow dryer. My questions: Anyone ever been able to feel touch, vibration etc but only a certain kind of touch feels numbed?? I think it's he heat that is perhaps being muted and the air sensation for me. Anyone ever had it come and go like mine did?? Thanks!! |

At the beginning of my PN mine started similar to that.
My PN is in my feet but in the beginning before I knew what was going on, I kept thinking I was losing feeling or sensation on my left ankle but it would come and go and I thought I was going crazy. Eventually I touched the back of my heel and it was completely numb which is when I realized I was not crazy and it was time to do something. Periodically I had other sensations of tingles, burning, etc. on my toes but again it was so brief, and only periodically, so I ignored it. Then of course things progressed to both feet and full blown PN. |

I think many/most PN sufferers have good (less severe) and bad (more severe) days, symptom-wise. Kind of like a dimmer vs a switch. YMMV.

--if nerve compression is part of what is going on, whether from higher up in the spine or along the nerve pathways in the legs, depending on the extent of compression, which may well change with different positions, different degrees of swelling, even different times of day, you may get more, or fewer, incidents of altered or reduced sensation.

Do you wear tight clothing? Is the numb feeling mostly the thighs? Are the feet affected?
Tight clothing and belts (jeans especially) can pinch the lateral femoral sensory nerve and give numbness and other sensations in the upper thigh...mostly in the front and sides. This is called MP (merlagia paresthetica). If the numb feelings extend to the calves and feet then MP is not likely.
