Hi everyone, I'm currently waiting to see a neurologist after being refered by another hospital department in respect of my peripheral neuropathy symptoms, I'm not sure if its ms as my aunt suffered from this. Here's my symptoms, I know you are not doctors but could do with some chat about what this could be.
I have the following symptoms numbness, weakness and muscle loss in hands (my left is the worse) with some tingling thrown in for good measure! Tingling in both arms and feet and legs too especially more in hot weather. Tiredness Sometimes I can't get my words out properly, symptoms are hightened if I'm stressed or working hard at work. Terrible memory Dizzy spells. I'm not sure what answers I'm looking for really, hope to hear from someone soon, oh I'm guessing is this typicall neuropathy or could it be ms? |

--is more likely to suggest something of central nervous system origin, as problems merely with the peripheral nerves would not result in that.
Is that symptom frequent/constant/severe, or is it more what would be termed like a "senior moment"? Many of us have trouble getting out the proper words or remembering them in stressful situations, especially with advancing age. The other problem, as you've hinted at, as many neural symptoms for peripheral vs. central system problems (i.e., MS) can be exactly the same. It's why the search for cause is often long, drawn out, and very process of elimination. Obviously, MRI's of brain and spine should be done, and possibly nerve conduction studies, along, likely, with at least some of the serological tests in the Latov/Quest protocol: http://www.questdiagnostics.com/test...ripheralNeurop |

Hi glenntaj, my words problem is not every day usually when I'm having a bad day, forgot to mention I do shake sometimes, not really noticeably but I can feel it, thats when its worse, I just cant get the first word or two out and I'm conscious that I might trip my words up if you know what I'm saying.
Also sometimes when I'm resting on a particular arm, leg it will go quite weak, so I can't really drive for too long or my foot goes numb. I'm not saying that this is everyday, I have good days like today with hardly anything apart from the weakness in my hands and the tingling, another day I can have the shakes, as I've described and have the word problems etc. I live in the UK so am having to wait 5 more weeks to see the neuro, I've already waited 6. Oh and when I do some gardening my hands can loose all grip after a few minutes, not sure what all thats about! |

I've just written a long reply and i think I lost it!
My word problem usually happens when I'm having a bad day which is not every day but fairly frequently, like I can't think of the right word or I feel like my words will tumble out like I'm tripping over them if you know what I mean. Also I can get the shakes, not really visible but noticeable to me and I trying and stop this from happening which can make me more tired. Also if I do the gardening after a short while I can loose all grip in my hands. Some times if I have some pressure on me, such as the dog sitting on my lap then my legs will start to feel funny, same thing in my arms if I lean on them for a while. I'm from the UK and have to wait 5 more weeks to see the neurologist, I've waited 6 already. |

![]() One question I have is, are you now—or have you ever been—on any medications that may have caused/exacerbated any of your symptoms? Doc

Sorry my reply was very short I was trying to reply on my ipad but had a bad time with my hands.
Erm, the only tablets are take are for my blood pressure of which I can't remember the names they are the lowest dose and as I was refered from another hospital appointment the consultant said that these would not have caused it. I've also had trouble with constipation at times and re-accuring water infections. Its very hot here today and the tingling in my hands, arms, legs is much worse. I can also sense heat from coming from different objects if i'm standing close, not making myself clear i know but my skin is quite sensitive with heat x |

I hope that you are able to get a brain MRI to rule out MS
Tingling and weakness is familiar to most of us PN sufferers. I wish you a speedy diagnosis and treatment. Its no fun waiting, is it! |
