If you really want accurate thyroid test you have to check FREE 3 and 4 and also get a copy of the results. You need the ranges in order to understand the results. example FREE T3 results: 3.45 range 2.0 to 5.5 as each lab company may have a different range so just knowing the result wont help.

If you need more info on thyroid after the test go to:

http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/

I learned a lot there.

Thyroid is not easy to find a good doctor and in my opinion, desicated thyroid meds are the best first line of defense over synthetic hormones that most doctors push these days with little results and more side affects.

Your B12 test was definately useless since your were on B12. I did the MMA B12 test for a better picture.

good luck

Thanks for that Stacy.

I've learned such a lot from people on this site in such a short space of time.
Problem is, how to be assertive but not pushy with the doctor about testing, I know from experience as a teacher on parent's evenings, I didn't want a know-it -all parent telling me how to do my job, it's irritating and counter productive.
I think I have developed a good enough relationship with mine for him not to take offence..
There's so much to learn........

Oh ya, been there done that.

One dr had his nurse call me and tell me I should find a new dr as I am to into self diagnosis perhaps I would find a better suitable dr.

oh well.

NEXT.

I agree, there is a right way and wrong way to approach them, but in the end, I refuse to accept any stupid drug they want to push on me because its the new hip drug or he gets a kick back. Nobody cares more about me than me and I have learned to stand up for myself. But you are right, it takes a special dr to tolerate people who have an opinion and desire to be involved in their health care.

They are out there, look till you find one. I love my current dr, but then, that's cuz he realized I know more them him kidding

The scary part is just when you finally think they understand you and you can trust them they can turn on you, just like that. Still confused after last month's appointment, wondering whether I'll get Jekyll or Hyde next week.

Default Hello Karen

Welcome to Neuro Talk. I hope that all of us can give a little input. Mrs. D is correct, Lidoderm patches do work, and so do some of the compounds that have five or more medications in them. This lotion works fairly well too. Have you been seen by a good pain specialist who knows about PN in particular? I see a physiatrist, who happened to specialize in pain first but treats the whole person. Over the course of a year or more, my PN is better. I do take suppliments, B12 being the most important. There is always hope that PN can get better.
This site will be here for you with many who have this. We lean on each other for support. Take care, and again welcome to Neuro talk. ginnie

Thyroid test came back well within range (too depressed to look at the figures).
Doctor has signed me off work for a month with depression.
Told me to keep off the internet because it's making me add 2 and 2 together to make 5 all the time. He said support forums are invaluable when you have a diagnosis..
Totally fixated, stayed in bed til 2pm today. Not knowing what's wrong is driving me insane.
It's my birthday on Oct 12 (Saturday), bad timing or what?

Thanks to everyone for your support and kindness x

Happy Birthday.... same day as my husband's!

A good deal of PN can be life style interventions. Too bad your doctor doesn't know that. Some PN is environmental, so finding that solution has to be done on the net.

Oh, well, the net scares many of them, you know.

This forum is always here, free of charge to you and the world.
Use it as you need for whatever you want. We have a Pet's forum, a creative forum with art work and poetry, health news items, sanctuary. Lots of other things to read and click on.
There are many animal lovers here, and the Lighter side and Pets forums are filled with fun video links.

I just learned about "silkie" chickens this week in fact on our Pets forum!

Thanks Mrs D..

I'll check out the animal stuff on the site.

Can't remember if I've mentioned having periods of "heavy arms" as a symptom as well as the feet pain.
I've had it a few times, particularly in the mornings if I'm rushing around (that's not happening much at the moment.. but it happened today by the time I arrived at the doctor's). My arms feel like lead for a while, then it just goes away.
It feels like I'm doing exactly what the doc said, trying to link symptoms and self diagnosing.
He looked at my vocal cords too, as my voice keeps cracking when I try to talk in my usual, lowish voice range. He didn't see anything untoward.
Now I've just got to stay off google looking for a throat self diagnosis...

Thanks again..

Thyroid test came back within range. I didn't check figures as I was feeling too low.
Have ordered ALA/benfotiamine supplement from Amazon.
Probably need magnesium as I have an annoying arm twitch now..
.
I've been signed off work for another month with stress. Neuro appointment in November seems a lifetime away. I probably won't even have any testing done, it will be more of an evaluation session I assume.

Hi Karen,

You could always ring the Neuro office and ask them to phone you if there are any cancellations if you can go at short notice. I am getting together a list of questions for my neurosurgeon visit tomorrow (reply in other thread) and my husband just said they must get really fed up with people that google things on the internet which I can understand but as several people here have said in the past, no one is going to care about your health as much as you. I think the NHS works well on the whole but waiting times can be very long and even a few weeks is a long time when you are worried and if things are getting progressively worse in that time.

My daughters who live in USA where wait times are much quicker are saying push the doctors etc. but that gets you nowhere in UK. Over there if you don't like/get on with one you can find another but here it is not so easy.

I have been taking the Benfo/ALA/Magnesium but had no improvement but as I have this mass on spinal cord allegedly causing neuropathy that is probably why. Will update after appointment tomorrow. I do think finding the diagnosis makes life a lot easier but for some people that just doesn't happen.
