My Dr wasn't concerned about Xanax being used on occasion, just not on a regular basis. He felt the use as needed to relax during a bad time to relax was not a problem. I take .5 or .25 about 3 or 4 times a week usually will get me over the hump.

I don't know if I made it clear here but I have been diagnosed with MALS and have talked to 2 surgeons that think the surgery may not help me. The nueropathy I have is directly related to my stomach though. Sometimes I feel fine until I eat then my nueropathy flares up, feet cramp up twitches all over. Other times I will be in lots of pain and eat and it will all go away. I woke up feeling horrible today, Ate a big (for me) lunch and have been much happier since. Also if I take anything for my stomach (ppi, stomach supplements such as pepzin or any supplement or food that is hard on the stomach) my nerves flare up like crazy. I took cymbalta and i made nerves really bad and made my stomach worse. I think I am going to have the surgery cause its the only way to know if it will help or not.

So my take is I respond to Gaba enhancing drugs or anti convulsants like xanax. What other gaba enhancing drugs are there?
Hi,

I started having panic attacks when I was in my early 20s and was prescribed Xanax.

The say it's habit forming I can see how it could be. 30 tablets could last me a year.

I like you could not sleep and have horrible pain and find the Xanax does help.

It's probably not the drug of choice for pain but it works and until I get something PN specific I will continue with my Xanax for peace of mind and sleep.

Thumbs up 8 days free

I went to my GP on Wednesday and told her I never want Xanax again, asked for Valium instead which I was prescribed last year and stopped as it made me feel so tired. Anyhow, I can take up to 3x5mg Valium a day. My nonstop headache has abated a little. I don't have that anxious gnawing feeling for Xanax and I've been getting in a reasonable nights sleep, still sleep disturbed with pain but able to drop back off and even sleeping through to 8am on Thursday and Friday which is totally out of the norm. With the Valium I have reduced the oxycontin to 20mg slow release and declined the endone and oxynorm breakthrough.

Yesterday I managed on 20mg oxy all day, prepped and cooked a roast for 3 at mums and had just the 1x5mg Valium and 1x25mg valdoxan for bed meds. Yes I was up at 4am but I actually feel good. The aura has almost gone, no bad faeces smell, no visual slippage (still smelling urine) and the headache just there but bearable. Warm round of applause for me, no more the dreaded drug. Valium doesn't give me the false I want you urge and I'm anxious because I haven't had you... My GP agreed the Xanax could well have been contributing to the overwhelming headache and I'm beginning to feel like another grand mal has been avoided. Yay me....

Default Quit Xanax Cold Turkey After 14 years

Hello. I quit Xanax cold turkey one month ago after 14 years of usage. I took anywhere from 3 mg a day for years to just 1mg daily the last 7 years. I decided to quit because one day driving to work I realised I forgot to take the Xanax. I was feeling just fine until it dawn on me I had forgotten to take it and immediately your mind starts freaking out. This really angered me and so I decided enough was enough. I was tired of Xanax dictating my life and wanted to quit for good. One thing I must convey is that too many Xanax users have too much respect for the drug and this is why it is hard for them to quit. You must shift your mind set into respecting the power of ones mind over the drug. The first few days after quitting I experience an over all "flushed" feeling where as I just felt totatlly useless. Brain fog, depression, muscle spasms, agitation and insomia all appear. For three weeks these symptoms shift back and forth and you start to worry you will never be sane again. After three week, I started coming out of the hole and things really started looking good. Its been one month now and my mind is clearer than it has been in 15 years. I am much happier and have absolutely no problem associating with peers and being pro active. Having said this, I am how ever still experiencing severe upper leg ( thigh ) muscle spasms. They are unrelenting and have been active for days with out letting up. Cant sleep because of this and really driving me nuts,
