For those taking Krill oil.... try taking them at night. I switched from afternoon to night because I was forgetting to take them, and boy am I sleeping better, getting up less! This effect has held for a week now and still going strong. Also dreaming and recalling the dreams much more!
Fish oil may reflux... but Krill oil doesn't. So if you take fish oil, take it at least one hour before you lie down.

Took my first ever krill oil tablet just now, and have come to bed. Will be interesting to see if there is any notable difference.
Thanks for the tip Mrs D. ![]() |

Agree with your effect Mrs. D. I can't take fish/Krill oil but was able to work up to one piece of premium salmon at night, which I eat before dinner. I am also able to eat walnuts before I go to bed, for the Omega 3. I have pills for BP that give me bad dreams and have found that if I squeeze in as much omega 3 before bedtime that I can... I fail to have those horrible dreams and sleep better.
My humble opinion would be that the omega 3, a natural mood booster, works just as well through the night as it does during the day if you can get it in right before bedtime. Found the same thing, just different foods. Nice to see you Mrs. D. ![]() |

I'm reading Dr. David Perlmutter's book, "Grain Brain," and in it he recommends taking 1000 mg. of DHA daily--doesn't say when to do this though. He's been making the rounds of talk shows, pushing his book--I've seen him several times.

Mrs. D: What brand of krill oil do you use? I had the reflux issues with fish oil and also the pills are so huge that they are hard to swallow!

I use Mega Red.... I get them at Costco, which has them on sale for further savings now and then (in their store coupon book).
I take one or 2 a day. (currently on 2 because my knee is acting up). And they never repeat on me whenever I take them.

Mrs. D, I've been taking the same Krill oil now for a few days. Best sleep I have gotten in weeks! I did notice that Mega Red Krill oil has significantly less EPA and DHA than the Carlson fish oil I was taking (total of 50 and 24mg. Vs 300 and 200mg in the fish oil). What are your thoughts on this?

The Krill oil has phospholipids attached to the EPA and DHA which improves solubility and then absorption. This leads to better blood levels compare to regular fish oils which need bile salts to emulsify them for absorption. (this latter function may fail).
Therefore the Krill oil is more potent and effective in the smaller caps. Estimate is 300mg of Krill is equal biologically to one of the larger fish oils (usually at one gram). I think the Krill oil is superior, at least for me it is. Starting this week June 12, Costco has a nice $5.00 coupon on each version of MegaRed. I'll be getting ours and stocking up a bit, therefore. ![]()
