I have this severe pain on the top side of my right leg, its about 6 inches from my knee about 3 inches to the right of my shin, i can not find the pain by hand by pushing or poking but its there and it can be severe like pulling meat off the bone, or like a burning like when you scrape your knee. I woke up about two wks ago and it hurt in my front outside hip, right where it connects to the body and radiated down the front of my leg. I went shopping and had to rest several times because of the pain. The pain in the hip has gone away for the most part but will return now and then, but the pain in lower leg is still here, and it can hurt like hell. I have iced it, put heat on it, Ben Gay on it, even bought a massager one of those electrical pad things, nothing works, I am a 63 yr old male so walking for exercise is a main part of my life, i was walking about 5 miles every other day or more, now i can' t. I do take high blood pressure meds and cloresterol meds, and am a pre diabetic, not over weight. When i rest it can be fine but when i walk it flairs up and hurts. There is no swelling no cold or warm to the touch, just the pain raw meat feeling, and it seems to hurt in my butt if i try to walk
through the pain, whar can this be. Help Please. |

I think you need to see a doctor. PAD occurs in the legs and is worse with walking. This might be ischemic pain. (starving the tissue of oxygen)
It could also be tendonitis. You should mention the statin use... as this affects muscle functions. A nutrient called CoQ-10 is blocked by statins, so taking a good form of this ( like Qunol or Qgel 100mg a day) may help restore this vital nutrient that statins destroy. While you are at the doctor's, ask for a vitamin D level, and B12 level. (theB12 should be at least 400pg/ml and not lower).

Thanks for the reply. I thought about PAD but that useually goes away on rest and can involve calfs butt and shins, i think i have that at times but it has come and gone here or there, but like i said this is constant and i can not feel where it hurts by poking ot pinching, its like deep in my leg. Sounds almost like shin splints but its on the outside of the shin about 3 inches away.

Sorry to hear of your pain. Sounds like you have tried several things to reduce the pain of unknown origin. Hang with me a minute as I do not always express myself very well. I had some weeds in my lawn. They just kept getting worse and worse. I sprayed the lawn with a weed killer to no avail. I tried product after product and nothing seemed to work. I went to garden centers and asked how I could get rid of these weeds that were taking over my entire lawn at this point. They just kept thriving no matter what I tried through all my efforts to eradicate them. Finally I cut some of the weeds at the soil level, also dug some up to have the root as well, and mailed them to the state agricultural center. They identified the weed and only then could they tell me what to use to eradicate them. OK, the whole point of that story was until you identify the cause and root problem of your pain, it will be difficult for anyone to offer and share possible ways to relieve your suffering. I know you said you don't want to go to the doctor, but, ... we are not diagnosticians. We can't diagnose your problem for you based upon the symptoms you describe. You really DO need to see a doctor and let him/her find the cause of your pain. Only then will you find an appropriate solution or treatment. Otherwise, you will be doing as I did with the lawn,.... pumping it with weed killer that seemed to only feed and spread it. Wishing you better days and relief from your pain so you can get back to your walking routine, but I think a doctor is the one to assist you in this quest. |
