I have been in such terrible pain for about ten days now. I usually can tolerate the pain but this is like I have never experienced before. I take tramadol. I also have tried the Percocet I have for breaking through pain. Nothing is working.
I have a strong pain threshold. I've had 8-9 on the pain scale and went on with life. But this is really starting to wear me down. It has never been like this. I'm so tired from dealing with it. I just want to cry. I feel like I'm being stung by a million bees constantly. For the first time ever I've thought about going to the ER. I hate ER's and I'm not sure what they could do anyway. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could try, ![]() |

If this is beyond your endurance, please do go to the ER. Call your PCP and tell him you are going. They can and do try to ease it back at the ER until you see your regular physician. Don't suffer and not try. The ER does have good people that work there. Most are really very kind. ginnie

I have never been to an ER for myself, but it certainly sounds like you need help. Bearing up under constant pain, even if moderate, really wears me down and leads to depression, which is why my husband and I try to keep on top of it, with breakthrough meds, heated blankets, and massage. You may need a much more aggressive pain management program, but the ER should be able to help you break the spiral until you can get long term help.
It is dangerous to be under this kind of stress for long- it can affect your blood pressure and cognitive abilities, and make it harder for medication to work the longer you wait. Peripheral pain can change into centralized pain which is harder to treat. Please get help ASAP. Opiates are not always effective for neuropathic pain, but combined with an anti-seizure med like Gabapentin, and/or an anti-depressant, they are worth trying. I have had good results from MS Contin (time release morphine). I hope that you get help soon. |

Thanks Ginnie and Susanne. I spoke with my neurologist and he wants me to double up on the Percocet. He said he can't call in anything stronger. They can't call in anymore. He wants me to call my rheumo tomorrow. I have a IVIG appt on the 7th. He wants me to see if they can take me sooner. I hope they can and I hope it works.
I have been going over and over what might be causing this and I have no answers. |

I'm glad you are restarting the IVIG and I hope it works for you. Maybe the extra Percocet will take the edge off and give you a break until they can gt the IVIG rescheduled to a sooner date.
Please keep us posted!! |
