Default IVIG and or corticosteroids for SFN
Anyone out there received an or a combination of these?

Will insurance pay?

That is NOT an easy question to answer...there are many factors involved. Yes, insurance may pay for either BUT it all depends on your (documented) Dx.

You need to know if the PN is inflammatory based for steroids to have any impact. The IVIG is used for autoimmune based neuropathies and some other cases, but is VERY expensive (co-pays can even be out of reach for some as well---all depending on what your ins pays).

I've tried steroids for 2 months and it didn't help. Actually my neuropathy was getting worse. My insurance denied my docs request for IVIG but he appealed. We are still waiting to hear back, its been two months I read a fantastic study th at was done on a small sample size of 12 patients, and it helped 10 of them!

Baba,

Your new biopsy results, should help you get approved for IVIG.

Steroids really only help IF the SFN is inflammatory based.

Thank you so much. But will it, if there is NO AUTONOMIC involvement and is sensory only?

You do NOT have to have autonomic dysfunction to receive IVIG. It's more based upon the clinical symptoms, biopsy results, and cause (if known---like positive autoimmune testing).
