Hi all, the worst of all symptoms I'm dealing with is weakness. The pain has been less with gabapentine and cortisone, the twitching is intermittent, but this weakness is driving me insane. I can't stop worrying/obsessing that this is due to MND. I'm not in a logical mindset right now.
![]() So with that said, I have a question. Many of you probably have been told to do certain exercises to help strengthen. Do you feel even WEAKER after the exercises? Is it logical to feel or be weaker? What about any other symptoms being aggravated by exercises, like pain and twitching? I get a good dose of pain and twitching too, after exercising. Thanks!

I felt exercise aggravated my symptoms. I noticed more twitching too. But I mainly do weight training. Haven't touched a weight in a month. Maybe I will try some light cardio.

I speak only for myself but exercise helps my symptoms. MrsD explained that exercise puts the larger nerves into action thus symptoms originating from the small nerves aren't felt. Sorry MrsD if I butchered that but that how I understood it
![]() At rest is when I experience my symptoms. I find myself moving around a bunch when I'm going through a flare up. |

I think keeping a journal is helpful. Log into it what you eat, when you eat it...exercise type and length of time doing it.
Sleep each night. etc etc. I was fine at the gym once until I tried the resistance machine for the calves. Oh, boy did my feet flare on that one. Nothing else really flared me that one did! It had a foot pedal you depress and adjust weights.. Like an old time sewing machine bar before electricity. Never again! I do flexes and other isometric things in bed if I get up in the night. It makes for easier rising in the morning (less pain). At PT they taught me many isometric things to do while watching TV or lying in bed. That moves the blood around and keeps the muscles loose.

I have both arms showing weakness, along with tingling, odd falling asleep sensations, radiating, pulsating, and burning pain. etc. As for exercising, phew. Its depressing writing this out, for I am at the wits end dealing with this, but I KNOW exercise triggers my pain and weakness. I cannot even get groceries, which I do not even consider exercise, without my arms and legs giving out on me and putting me in extreme pain that night and on bed rest for a day after. Actually just happened to me this weekend. I have varying degrees of weakness in my extremities, each day is different, but it is there ALL THE TIME. Overuse does trigger scary symptoms, but that is just me. I will go a few days feeling somewhat normal and happy, then boom I try to do "normal" things and my body screams at me. I have my first neuro appt in one week, so I will update you on what I find out, if anything.... I am hoping for some physical therapy to help me with my problem. I have attempted beginner yoga and it didn't go over well, so now I am frighten to do any of my regular exercises ![]() ![]() |

Thank you, can you describe what kinds of things you experience at rest? Like, more pain, burning, twitching, weakness?

Thank you - yes, I am keeping a real nice journal of everything. Not so much the eating, but once I am less overwhelmed, I will find a way to incorporate that.

Yes, I have jolts, twitching, and minor fasculations lasting about ten secs at a time. I have them radomly kinda all over my body, especially arms, legs, sides, shoulders, and face including my lip last night. They arent painful, just aggravating. I dont experience much pain at rest, unless I have done a lot. Of course, some days I wake up already feeling weak with "heavy" limbs and clumsy hands but pain is not really intolerable. This is my third month in, so I'm getting better at managing the symptoms. Of course I still have break downs from time too time, but we all do! I have also been able to stay at home while my husband works, so I'm lucky and can take it easy and get rest, especially on days I know I need it. Thinking of you. What it's your treatment plan at this point?
