Lightbulb Regranex....

cost over $600.00 for a tiny tube. Most insurances will not approve it.
http://www.drugstore.com/qxn00045081...x/regranex.htm
Since Alan does not have diabetes, I don't think the insurance will pay for it.
It is far more expensive than any wound care dressings!

There are MANY other ways to go... using the new dressings out there.

You will want to make sure he is using Flax oil to provide essential fatty acids.
You can mix it right into the smoothies -- no taste.

The skin is comprised of fatty acids...and Flax helps my husband's psoriasis alot.

My wife's best friend's son (who is in his 40s) has seen some of the best dermatologists and has taken "everything under the sun" - including prescription medicine, OTC stuff, as well as a gazillion 'old folks' remedies....and he is still plagued with psoriasis. So, if you ever find anything that really cures, please let us know. Good luck.....and I sincerely mean that.

Believe me, if we ever find "the magic bullet" that does away with his psoriasis for good, well, it would be my pleasure to put it on these boards.

I've learned everything from these boards. And Alan wouldn't be the muscle guy he is today, if I had never heard of a chiropractor/neurologist.

That's how I found Dr. Theirl, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Oh, Alan went to see him yesterday. He used the G5 machine on Alan.

Alan said he died and went to heaven. That's how much he adores the G5 and how it makes him feel.

We should all have a G5 machine!!!! lol

Well, so much for the Hyperbaric Oxygen... Maybe this link will help. Johnson & Johnson has a patient drug assistance program and Regranex is listed as one of the drugs available through this program. My friend has used one of these programs and has been most fortunate in getting her very expensive drugs in this manner.

Here is the URL to get info:

Well, since Alan was on their patient assistance program before, maybe I can contact them and try and get the regranex (if his doctor decides to prescribe it that is).

But I also don't think I have a shot because with the new medicare Part D plan in effect, patient assistance won't help you if you have any prescrition coverage. I know because I tried to help two friends get on patient assistance and because they had some dumb stupid little prescription plan, they didn't qualify.

But I shall persevere.

Let's continue to keep fingers and toes crossed.

Mrs D:

What if you put a little flaxseed oil DIRECTLY on the psoriasis, think a small bit rubbed into the skin, might do anything??

Lightbulb food things...

are not sterile. So I don't know if they will be safe.

I have rubbed in Evening primrose oil into cuts and sores in the past however, and they heal up quickly. GLA in the primrose is in some cosmetics for improving skin, and also lip balms.

If you don't think it will increase infection risk, I'd give it a try.

My husband takes both flax and fish oil daily. And his psoriasis is much better.
Whenever he is stressed it tends to flare. But his face (eyebrows) has been clear for a while now. He only has it on one elbow, and one knee presently.
He inherited it from his Grandfather who had terrible lesions, including nails.
Since he stopped drinking alcohol all together 5 yrs ago it has also been much better.

MrsD:

My husband also has Psoriasis and, as yours, takes flax seed oil and fish oil. It has helped tremendously. This year, on his annual trek, he went to Brazil and was in the sun quite a bit. The sun helps a lot with keeping it cleared up too.

I think I posted on this part a while back, but if not: A lady in our area has this so badly, her body is just covered with it. She has one of those stand up sun tanning booths and I am pretty sure her doctor prescribes certain amounts of exposure to help keep this under control. Not that Alan needs UV exposure all over, but I was wondering if they still make those little individual sun lamps that expose very small areas of the body. If so, maybe Alan could try that. They used to be very inexpensive.

Of course, "used to be" was a while back...

Cool Smirk Melody...

My brother in law is diabetic (t1) and developed a pretty severe foot ulcer. He had a devil of a time getting it to heal. He finally had great sucess with circulator boot therapy. I dont know the fine details ,but it was recommended to him by the Mayo in Jacksonville.
