Is there such a thing as eating too much chocolate???
Are you under 3 quilts, 6 pillows and a yellow dog when you eat that chocolate?? In our climate, it has to be done the right way, ![]() Hope you are feeling better soon, but I have a hunch when you hear the weekend forecast, you, like me, will not be feeling so hot. I am still mad at 'big dog' not yellow dog. 'Big dog' he ate my turtles...my chocolate turtles....he has no class.... |

My husband made me a nice turkey dinner...
Two turkey parts, yams, and potatoes. We have a Nesco dutch oven, so I have taught him how to throw everything in there together, and then it is all steamed nicely in the end. Nesco Dutch ovens are great for HUSBANDS. I had 3 pieces of the candy. I don't eat alot of sweets, and I think I had something else , a bug, since I was getting down/nauseous a couple of days ago. I felt alot better after the cosmic nap. It is a small box of candy compared to what most people eat... I refuse to give up EVERYTHING... so I do treat myself now and then. ![]()

Sounds like you salvaged your day....and got a good dinner too.
I got to eat 3 of my Valentine chocolate turtles and hubby got 3 too....I put them away in my underwear drawer (OK weird, I know -but it is the top drawer) ...the next day went to my dental appointment, came home and there was the empty heart box! And an open underwear drawer. I believe firmly in the benefits of chocolate---I think it is a 'girl' thing. |

Good to see you're feeling more like yourself, MrsD. I think we all have those days and it's nice to have support from other people who understand at a level most others can't and don't.

--but still, the psychological benefits of an occassional overindulgence often outweigh the physical debilitation . . .
I'm feeling a bit under the weather digestively this AM--I'm very acidy. This is likely because I ate half a gluten-free pumpkin pie yesterday. It is so rare that I get a good baked good into me that I went at it like it was the last one on earth last night, but obviously something disagreed with my digestive tract as I've got wonderful heartburn and gas today (I NEVER get the former; the latter, well . . .) I'm going to have a nice acidophilous laced yoghurt and then curl up with the Ipod. Glad you feel better, Mrs. D. (Those mashed potatoes sound good right now.) |

heartburn from pumpkin... I stopped eating it years ago for that reason.
What I have discovered by going gluten free, is that much of my GI problems are linked to FRUCTOSE. I have begun using gluten again, very moderately, and have no more problems. But honey or any high fructose thing will make me very ill now. (my reaction to the candy was most likely this). I discovered this when I returned from vacation. I was putting honey in my tea, and developed a nasty GI problem requiring Imodium. When I went back to regular sugar (I don't use very much, just a touch), everything quieted down. Fructose is high in certain fruits, and explains why I could never eat pears or drink juices high in pear juice (this is a common additive I discovered). I've never been able to drink apple juice, my whole life, and now I know why! I have found I can tolerate some fruit if eaten with something else. But eaten alone, can set me off now. I've looked around some, and there are two forms of fructose intolerance..one is GI mostly, the other is liver intolerance. Since I don't do alot of sweets, I am not having too much trouble. But I have found that RIBS with certain sauces, some tomato sauces for spagetti, still set me off. ( I am still using Tinkyada for all my pasta).

Sending many thoughts and am sorry you are having a ruff time. I always feel bad cause you offer so much support and advice to use but don't get that much in return. Though I know we all care and thank you more then words can say.
As for spices I am the same way. Its not just the day I eat it but the next day. Not worth it. Do you have ibs too? Did you choose to go gluten free or were you tested and have gluten intolerance?Just curious. Anyhow feel better. |

One thing I'll add here is that I have been doing 150mg of Benfotiamine instead of thiamine and I have had a big reduction in fluid retention overall. I used to need Lasix once or twice a week, and now if I take one I don't have 8-10 bathroom visits anymore. And my clothes are a bit looser too. Looks like the chronic edema (doctor thought it was thyroid caused) is being fixed by the benfotiamine. This was an unexpected result. So I am continuing with the 100mg of R-lipoic in the morning and 150mg of benfotiamine at night. I have had a few "attacks" of burning, and I am thinking it is do to foods-- potatoes especially seem to set it off. (nightshade intolerance is a possibility).
