Default OT? Moving again help?

I am lost people and would like some input. I moved to Ca from Mi because the cold really effects my leg pain because I loose circulation which then adds to pain. Well since I moved here I have been dealing with a horrible case seborrheic blepheritis that has been going on 4 months and I have been to 6 eye docs and 13 apts. Today I found out and sort of maybe thought that the change of weather because of lack of humidity in Ca and the wind could be the reason. I have never had such dandruff and dry skin. It may of course be a fluke. All I know is this eye issue is painful and will not clear up. What do I do take the chance and move back and deal with next winter next year or stay here and hope this gets better.Could move to Fl but my gramps is near there and that is going to add to mental stress.I wonder what other warm all year round states would be good for this eye issue? When I moved here I looked up so much on weather for the leg pain cause very cold is bad very bad and rain is not good either. I have tried so many eye meds and now am trying a derm treatment to see if I can get at the underlying cause which is seborrheic dermititis. I feel I have no luck. I do like Ca but since I have been here has been one battle after another. It is almost a joke. Any thoughts?

Default Maybe try

Daniella,
Run a humidifier in your house. Get yourself a humidistat and watch the humidity level in your house. You may need two of them to cover the whole area. Then buy yourself a pair of Panoptx goggles to wear when you are outside. See these: http://panoptx.com/html/va_motor.htm

Look at this website to find a dealer close to you. http://www.panoptx.com/dealerlist/find_a_dealer.htm

These goggles create a moisture barrier next to your eyes. That's how I cope with dry eyes. They even can have prescription lens put into them.

This will help you with the eye issues if it is the lack of humidity. Give it some time before trying to move again.

Thanks. Funny I just bought a pair of similar glasses on ebay off another forum that they told me about. In the morning when outside the wind blows right into the eyes and I start the day off bad. I hope it helps. I am looking into the humidifier. It took me all day to learn how to set up accounts online. I have never bought anything online. At least it keeps me preoccupied. Thanks so much.

Daniella, what part of the state do you live in?

The coastal slope from Oregon to San Diego has soft, reasonably humid air, though not as humid as the South and East Coast. The actual coast, again from Oregon to San Diego is cool (not freezing) and damp year round. Mark Twain quipped that the coldest winter he ever spent was July in San Francisco. The summers on the California coast are almost as cool as the winters, and tend to be windy and foggier, sometimes bone chilling even at 55 degrees, but good for the skin.

The mountains have harder, drier air, especially away from the coast. Even here in San Diego, where we lived in the foothills (Ramona), the air was quite harsh and dry, especially in the summer. Here in Southern California, we get periodic autumn and winter Santa Ana winds which give my wife and me nose bleeds and make me irritable.

The Central Valley was desert before irrigation and regularly gets well over 100 degrees in the summer. Of course, our deserts are hot and dry or cold and dry depending on the location and season. The desert and Central Valley are beautiful, especially after a rain, and our mountains are drop dead gorgeous, but it would be hard to live there with PN and with the dry skin and eyes that come with aging.

Daniella,
Have you looked into the Texas Gulf Coast near the Galveston area?

Hi. I live in Southern Ca in Ventura which is about 90 min from LA.Wing it is like when I walk outside the air is blowing into my eyes and why I bought special glasses but waiting. I guess MI is more humid on a good day then Ca is always. So what part of Ca is the best for this?Maybe I could go for a weekend. Traveling in my state far is not possible I feel. I can't imagine for me this is part of the aging process cause don't forget I am in my late 20's still. The way my skin looks it looks like I am going through puberty. I just start a prescription cream. I have family in TX. They get cold though in the winter and that is bad for my legs. There is no perfect location I guess. Thanks all.

Default So Cal

is very dry - both the air and the water very "hard"...

The winds off the desert are very hard on the skin, breathing, etc.... and allergies, and they much of the time... also, the water (you may have heard the term "Colorado River Water" is very full of minreals and will suck the moisture out of your skin and hair - when I used to get out of this area for vists, espeically back East, noticed a difference almost immediately in how much softer my hair was, etc...) (and, as SS just said - no smog which is murder on the eyes and smoke when we have the fires)

I know you're looking around the country - as for California - even getting up the coast further from where you are (but not inland) - say Carmel area - its damp, right on the ocean, and beautiuful....

I did live at the beach here for a while which was wonderful temperature wise - and got a cool ocean breeze most of the time - but the water was still real hard... (one uses lots of hair conditioner and mosturizer around here!)

Keep those glasses on!

Thanks. I am so sad this may be happening. I really like Ca but the eyes are just horrid. It could be a fluke I guess that it happened here and may of back home. Who is to know? It is so hard cause if I had no pain I could travel and see but that is hard in this condition. I would like to see how Fl is on me but going there sounds like a nightmare with the whole flying. Thanks I will keep you updated till then back to my compresses, drops, scrubs.

Ventura has just about a perfect climate for most people. That's why its wall-to-wall housing tracts. Believe it or not, Ventura was mainly agricultural when I was a kid, growing citrus, avocados, vegetables, strawberries, and even bananas (really, at the base of the hills near the sea north of town). It looked like heaven to me, compared to where I lived in Los Angeles.

Ventura gets a moderate amount of rain, mainly in the winter. It's almost never below freezing, but rarely gets uncomfortably hot. Most days, even in the summer, you'll get a nice refreshing sea breeze almost every afternoon. Except for the rare Santa Ana wind events, the humidity would usually range from above 40% to below 80% (higher at night). Summer highs will usually be between 70 and 85 degrees (not too humid), and winter highs are usually between 60 and 70. There is much less pollen in the air than the midwest, and the air pollution is much less than L.A.'s because of the sea breeze.

I think something else is setting off your problems. Stress? An infection? A drug reaction? Food allergy? Other allergies? I think you need to see a physician, and maybe a dermatologist to determine the causes and treatment for your skin problems. One thing you can do meanwhile is look up the side effects of all the medicine you are taking, including over the counter, at www.rxlist.com . See if dermatitis is one of the side effects, and then discuss it with your physician.
