Default curious about new sensation...

Wondering if anyone has experienced this sensation:

from about 3-4 inches from my elbow joint, on the underside of both arms, I get this sensation that the muscles want to cramp all the way into my hand and fingers. It feels like my arms and hands are saying...one of these days your gonna get a doozy cramp that is going to curl your fingers in and pull your arms into your body and boy is it gonna hurt. LOL

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if you did...did it ever turn into a doozy muscle spasm?

Kelly

Lightbulb this is called carpal/pedal spasm...

and typically indicates:

1) parathyroid disease/tumor

2) electrolyte imbalance, either potassium, and/or low magnesium.
example:
http://www.mdheal.org/magnesiu1.htm

3) imbalance between calcium and magnesium.

If attention to diet and electrolyte intake fails, you need to see a good
doctor to evaluate parathyroid functions. Once you get to the stage where you
have a full blown event, you are in a bad place.

hi there

is it a regular charlie horse type of cramp, or more of a spasticity type of thing ? I get regular cramps - but I also have spasticity which in a way is like a cramp but is actually caused by the brain and needs to be treated differently.

If they are regular sort of cramps, I would just increase calcium and magnesium, but if it is more of a cramp that doesn't necessarily hurt like mad but just won't go away then you probably should have an emg done to look and see whether those muscles are overactive. I get a weird sort of cramp that is more like the feeling you get when you bang your funny bone, but I get it in places like my shin and the top of my foot when I am driving. I really think I am going to have to swap to hand controls sometime soon. I also get the same feeling about an inch above my wrist on the underside of my hand, which makes no sense at all to me.

My hands are curled into a ball which is very annoying, I can stretch my fingers out to do something, but as soon as I relax they roll back into a ball. It is very annoying, I get really sick of my finger nails pressing into the palms of my hands. There are splints available that help with curled fingers to prevent contractures developing

cheers

Thanks for the responses. I know in may of this year the sensory nerves were being effected in my arms but not the motor nerves.

Curious what my study will show next month.

No pain yet. Just uncomfortable like a warning cramp. I used to get those in my legs. Now I get the full blown muslce cramps.

Thanks again.

Kelly

An easy way to see if the cramps subside is to take magnesium, or use the type of wrist/arm splints used for Carpal Tunnel - Ace Bandage Co - any good drugstore. Price on splints varies but it usually is only $about $15.00.

Actually, my feet, especially the left one does that! No spasm or cramp yet. But I always make a point to uncurl my toes, manually, if I have to.

Thanks everyone for all the replies!

Jarrett..I have the toes that curl too. Worse one was when they actually curled under while inside my running shoes. Had to pull off my shoes to straighten them out.

my toes are curled too - except for my big toe which is pulled upwards towards my shin, making for a very strange look! My feet are both twisted inwards in an equinovarus deformity (club foot) which seems to be the result both of the sensory motor neuropathy with some spasticity in my muscles thrown in.

My toes don't really uncurl unless I unroll them using my fingers so I don't usually bother. Shoes keep my big toe lying where it should thankfully

cheers
