Everyone-
I am going to John Hopkins in early December. I take many of the supplements posted in the stickies. I want the results of any blood tests that might be done to be as accurate as possible. Do you guys have any idea when I need to stop taking the supplements to get accurate test results? I was planning to stop taking the supplements two weeks prior to the appt. Will that be enough time? Thanks for any response. |

Vitamin C interacts with many blood tests.
You should ask the doctor and/or the place doing the tests, to be sure, about the others.

Yes, definitely call the dept of neurology at Hopkins and ask
about stopping suppliments, and the time frame beforehand. Vit C and Vit B12 (and others) can cause skewed test results.

Your levels will show higher even if you stop the supplement.
You could stop for a few days before, so any temporary excess will be gone. But your basic higher level will most still be there. Having MMA done will show more. If MMA is low, that means your B12 is working properly and being absorbed.

I am encouraged to hear that supplements might help foot neuropathy - I am interested in learning more about the supplements but am new here and don't know what the "stickies" are. Can someone direct me?
I will also have to be careful what I take, as I have a coagulation disorder that means I am Coumadin for life and cannot take things that might interfere. Doc tells me it's "diabetic neuropathy" - Not sure I believe him, I have some insulin resistance but am not diabetic at this point. I totally empathize with the comments on doctors - mine said, "Oh, it might never go away," smiling at me as he said it! Geez. Lorrie |

They do not move with the other posts here and remain in that spot.
Things to watch out for when on Coumadin are: herbs (like ginger, gingko, etc) ~~many can affect clotting. Vit E Fish oil and many others: Here is a list...but do not assume everything is on it: http://www.truestarhealth.com/Notes/1539003.html Basically many RX drugs also interfere. As well as some foods. Coumadin is very very difficult to maintain safely. You need careful monitoring by your doctor. And everyday a new drug is found problematic. For years and years, Tylenol was considered safe...but no more! Be very careful and have physician supervision!

you can be a pre-diabetic and have diabetic neuropathy. I take Methyl B-12 (5000 each morning under the tongue). It stopped my neuropathy symptoms in their tracks. Best of luck Mel
