Hi Everyone:
Over the last 4-5 months, I've had a strange symptom. It causes considerable pain and discomfort to raise my leg at the hip area - for example to get out of a car or out of bed in the morning. It seems to last for a few days and then goes away. I've had this happen on both sides. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this symptom? If so, is there anything that can be done to help alleviate the pain and discomfort? Thanks. |

Just curious, do you or did you have any arthritis before you got PN? I had arthritis in my hips, knees, spine and some other places before I got hit with PN. Sometimes I will experience pain and will stop and think, is this arthritis or PN? Sometimes I will feel both at the same time, especially in the knees. |

Do you feel it is a muscle cramp or spasm? Where is your pain usually? I would call your doctor is this persists? The only thing I could think of is a muscle relaxer if you feel it is like a cramp. Sometimes for ex my calves get so tight I feel I can't propel and so my neuro rx klonopin but of course you may have something different.

It doesn't really feel like a cramp, and it comes out of nowhere. I'm scared to death that it's going to get worse, and one day I won't be able to walk. I'm going back to the dr. in a couple of days, so I'll bring it up. I tried researching this symptom on the net, but came up empty.

I could not move my leg for 2 wks at all...then when I could it was terribly painful. I ended up in physical therapy for 3 months. It was from a fall, when I landed on my left knee, falling forwards I still get twinges in that leg, which are helped with Lidoderm patches, and conservative OTC pain relievers. I find increasing my magnesium helps alot too. Sometimes I use Flexeril to relax the muscles, at night. I'd get evaluated to see if you are having tendonitis, or inflamed hip joints. The adductor tendon combines 3 parts of muscles and attaches at the base of the pelvis. If it gets injured or inflamed it causes alot of problems. I've been told to move slowly and stretch often, and avoid falls at all costs! Getting in and out of the car has to change. PT taught me to swivel around and get out with both legs equally. Getting out leading with one leg is definitely out for me now. You might invest in a cushioned toilet seat... or one that is very flat and not curved. My issues were made very severe, with an old fashioned toilet seat we had on vacation. (we have since replaced it). People vary in their tendencies to develop tendonitis. Those tendons in the groin area take alot of stress and also shorten as we age. So getting to a doctor for evaluation would be a good idea. The PT I had was ultrasound and IFC electrostim treatments. They did a good job. There are isometrics you can learn to improve blood circulation to that area as well. This helps the tendons alot IMO. Now I am only stiff sometimes, and have a mild residual limp worse on some days than others.
