Hi
I've tried it also. That night was sleepless. Tossing and turning, I think I finally did fall asleep around 3, and then had the crazy dreams. No more for me!!! I'll find something else for the pain. And Flexeril knocks me out for a couple of days too. The only pain med that really works is vicoden, but then I'm hung over for a day, and can't work. I just can't win. But my14 yo dog has 25 mg Tramadol for pain PRN, and he sleeps well, all night long. |

Hi Mrs.D - have used Tramadol for years now. I can't say that my not sleeping well is due to the use of this drug or not as I never have been a great sleeper. I don't ever recall getting nauseated from it either. I did try the extended release once and it did not seem to work very well, so never used it again. It sure does take care of the tingling and hurting. I also take Lyrica - 100mg three times a day.
Take care.

Mrs. D, I took it for my back a while agao. I went to the hospital because I was "tripping" or something and I got really really scared. I don't like that stuff. |

So I see others have some problems too.
The word "tripping" is all I could think of to describe the reactions I had. I seemed very alert in other ways, but just "someplace else"...while I tried to get to sleep. When I got up this morning I felt like I had actually BEEN someplace else! A TRIP!

I looked up the pharmacology of Ultram (again--)
It has SSRI and SNRI effects as well as mu receptor activity. The SSRI is probably the flush tingling feeling and the nausea, the SNRI the alertness and then the mu is the euphoria. I don't get any euphoria with hydrocodone (the few times I used it). Codeine can give me a little high with T3 30mg strength. If I use a T3 which my doctor won't easily give BTW, it lasts me 2 days at least. I did have a throbbing headache in the back of my neck yesterday, that I had to take Tylenol for. I didn't take any last night. I did sleep pretty well too. My stiffness is better, but some hip pain has returned. Today will be a very active day --including working on our rock wall. If I am suffering tonight I will try 1/2 of one, as suggested here. I am really sensitive to drugs. When I had my C-section I remember a Demerol/Phenergan shot in recovery (Spinal wearing off), and I slept a whole day--next thing it was the next day afternoon! Totally gone I was. And then while in the hospital, I only needed T3's and not every time offered, either. I didn't take any opiate when I came home at all, with a 15 inch incision! (I had an exploratory looking with this C-section, looking for a tumor which didn't exist luckily for me!) So yes, pabb, I might be a slow metabolizer, too!

Would the slow release vs the reg be different possibly for you in reaction? You stated flexeril but I am on klonopin and that is supposed to help with muscle relaxing and also to help with sleep. For me not much of a change but have heard others be helped. Lastly I have a sensitive stomach and took many of those meds with a glass of milk as it is supposed to coat the stomach. I do know with Cymbalta for 2 weeks I was over a toilet or with a bucket but then it wore off but no help with the pain. Why can't there be happy side effects? Most frustrating is when the original pain is there plus the side effects. I hope you get some relief asap.

Hey mrsD! I keep Tramadol/Ultram on hand and take it when I know that Tylenol will not help. I don't take a very large dose and find that it takes my pain level down to a pretty tolerable level. I don't take it at any regular times, just as needed.
The only side effect I have noticed is ''constipation", so that's why I only take it when it's absolutely necessary. I also don't tend to take it at bedtime, so can't comment of the insomnia affect. Hope you can find a dose that will help w/your pain and not cause any unwanted sx's. Take care.
